Do you smell what Barack is cookin'?



I come from a conservative family, and I have mainly conservative views, and yet, I agreed with much of Obama's policies. I'm not too into politics, so I try to grasp the bare minimum. Either way, this is a historic event for African Americans, and the world. This is a huge step in the right direction for humanity, for one.

I didn't vote. I was still undecided...but I'm trying to be positive. I'm looking toward the future. I'm hoping Obama can do many things he promised he would do, I'm hoping he'll deliver. America needs change, and I hope he brings it to us.


Dear President Obama,
1. Bring our troops home ~ My uncle served two tours of duty in Iraq. Please try to end this senseless war and bring back our troops, safe and sound to their families. This 'war' has been going on long enough, regardless of whether you agree with it or not. Bring them home.
2. Get our economy back on the up-and-up ~ 'nuff said. The economy is currently a disaster. As a world leader, the US needs to exude confidence and power. Get us back in power.
3. Help me pay my student goddamn loans ~ I'll be in debt from my student loans for probably the next 2-3 decades. This, I do not look forward to...along with many other college students. You say you want to help us out. Please, please do.
4. Follow through on your energy plans ~ We can't continue to rely on foreign fuel. New energy sources was a big sticking point in your campaign -- you NEED to follow through on them.
5. Ignore the racists ~ I've been reading status updates on Facebook for about an hour and getting an extreme kick out of it...it's amazing how closedminded and ignorant some people are. You're the first black president, you're a pioneer.

I agree. Truly a huge positive step for our country and race relations! Next after Dr.King, he is one the greatest African Americans in this country. Congrats Obama! Yeah and ignore the racist idiots too!

He is, he's a pioneer for African Americans. He has to be up there with Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Colin Powell, etc., before he's even inaugurated.

This was also a big deal for my generation. CNN just said 66% of voters 18-29 voted Obama. Our voices have been heard.

Congratulations. Hopefully this ushers in a new era of change. I don't follow politics myself, therefore I don't vote, since I would do so only if I can make an informed decision.

The reason I don't follow politics is because of the slandering and bickering between political parties. I understand opposing views, but the way they go about it is distasteful to me.

I think it is great that an African American is President, and hopefully someday a woman will be President. I don't think race or sex honestly matters, as long as the person has integrity, intelligence, and all the other requisite qualifications. Anyway, it boggles my mind that sexism and racism still exist in current society.

I just wonder how long until Obama starts getting ridiculed by the media? It's a shame that the Presidency has been made into a mockery by the media since the Clinton administration. I think the media goes too far sometimes, but I guess nothing is sacred anymore.

Please let the economy be the first order of business! I have taken a beating in the stock market.

But yes, it's very, VERY awesome that Obama was elected. Almost makes me want to move to the US and become a citizen.

The first thing I ever said about Obama was "wow, he's amazingly well-spoken." Listening to him speak is a joy, whereas listening to Bush(who wasn't as stupid as people made him out to be...he was just a terrible public speaker) was a chore.

I don't think he's a bullshit artist, though, because lots of people can speak well and have it mean nothing.
I'm hopeful he'll follow through.

I was hoping Obama would win. However, I won't be surprised if I wake tomorrow to hear about White Supremacist related deaths. If he gets assassinated by a White Supremacist, and there is a good chance he may, the US will go through some very hard times.

But yeah, the World has changed a lot in the past year. Tony Blair has resigned, Australia is now lead by the Labor party and America is lead by the Democrats. The future looks promising,hopefully.

Well I for one am Conservative... Congrats for Obama... but what worries me is extremist liberals of which this may empower and from my observation, there seems to be a lot of solcialism behind what he speaks. But hopefully he does great as a leader, his experience for me as an american just doesn't seem all the way there, he will need a lot of help, and im sure he will get it.

National Heath Care works, although sometimes not as well as we'd like. The UK Goverment screwed up our Healthcare system by giving them targets to meet and so they're not very willing to treat people like me, with chronic health problems.

On the other hand, they've saved my life once or twice, so it's all good.

As far as Obama being elected...my wife, who is American, says 'yay' so I assume it's good. I avoid politics, any politics, wherever possible but I was impressed by Obama's lack of smeer tactics against Hillary Clinton.
