In general, the thing is, "post count = Nothing". We initially kept the post count as it's just a common forum feature. We added some minor features tied up to it and a few other things. Nothing special, but just general typical forum stuff. 'cause we thought it'd be a nice little touch.
If people post just to "upp their post count", then we could just as well remove those statistics, as even though we enjoy people posting here as much as you probably do, we still don't like unnecessary posting.
And the reason "short posts" are somehow frowned upon is because they often do not contribute in any way, except from filling out a lot of space between the more productive posts. Generally, a short post that is just a single word (and not the answer/respond someone is hoping for in their threads) then don't post it.
Also, a message board is not MSN/AIM/ICQ/IRC. Some people read the forums during lunch break and others during the weekends. If they post a question and all they get is a half-complete answer that requires them to fish for more info, then it's time for those who replied to rethink their posting methods and attitude.
A sample would be:

Yes.
Now Durban will have to spend additional time (and posts) asking for something that could've already been answered in the post by FishNet. I'm not saying an answer has to be given. I think it's perfectly fine to discuss things. But don't drag things out more than necessary like that.

The rule of thumb before hitting Submit Reply (or Submit New Thread) is basically asking yourself;
-Does this contribute?
Also, it might be worth having a look at the forum rules we have, as there are some that seem to have a bit of a problem following them and we haven't exactly been very active on forcing it upon people, but just gonna toss it out here now: We don't really like unnecessary abbreviations and 1337-speech typing. (And we'd prefer it if people could proof-read their own posts before hitting post too. And yes, I know that even then some mistakes will sneak in here and there. But in overall, if everyone does their best to write properly; they'll benefit from it themselves too.)
I don't know why my posting count is so high, like I send short messages and all, but I can't remember ever posting a "yes" or "wow" comment in the past.
I'm sure someone will go out of their way now and find a comment I made that goes against what I just said, sure i've just posted the shock face before, because that is all that came to mind when I read or saw a picture that made me go lol
With the posting count, I think its a good plan to keep it, as encourages users to post, sure you get the spamalots like Helegad :p, but we should keep it on this forum.
I know its not going to get dropped, but at this moment I don't see a reason to, because most posts are suited to the convos, just the silly msn messages that sometimes go on is the only pain in the butt.
