will PCI express x16 2.0 abled video cards work on PCI express x16 1.0 abled boards

after some xtreme digging i found the schematic to my motherboard and found i can support PCI express x16 video cards. my only problem is this whole 2.0 Vs 1.0 thing.

i have a 1.0 abled board but could i still support a 2.0 enabled card on it. im udateing my PSU and addng anoth gig of ram to my board for it if i have too.

im asking because im looking for a good video card

I think it would depend on the drivers, or the data transfer rate. If it's the data transfer rate, then no, it wouldn't be supported, because it'd use a different mechanical format.
