Now this is why I can't understand why people won't go for the graphically superior and much more stable PS3. Ugh.
Because some of us are broke and can't afford it LOL. Well, here PS3 is really expensive, so I got an Xbox, but I do plan to get a PS3. But first I need a HDTV.

My xbox got RROD once, but customer support was excellent, I sent my xbox on a monday and got back a new one on thursday, so I can't really complain about that. Obviously I abuse my xbox with marathonic 10 hour sessions, so I wasn't shocked when the bastard RROD'ed on me.

Although not a Red Ring my 360 has snuffed it again. This time the disc drive motors are shot. It will go back in fine but won't come out. This is my second one in two or so years.
So, so far:
360: 2 Breakdowns
PS3: 1 Breakdown.
Wii: Fine, even after being fed pennies.
Previous generation of consoles: All still working. Including my Master System, last time I tried it.
It's funny because i've had mine now 2 years and it hasn't red ringed me yet which has suprised me, my ps3 has no problems whatsoever and my ps2 despite been 8 years old still works like a charm.
I'd still have my ps2 (i had it for 8 or 9 years) if my cousin didnt drop it down 20sum stairs. Then tell me straight to my face he isnt going to buy me a new one and he's gonna save up for a 360 insted.

revenge is best served cold.
WTF!? Why did your cousin do that?
Go drop his 360 down a flight of stairs then tell him your saving up for a new PS2.
I would have beaten the shit outta anyone who would do that to my consoles.
Eh, that just reminded me of when my dad threw our N64 because I brother wouldn't share it with me. It stopped working after that...
But it's only happened to me about 2 times. We had the Xbox replaced the first time, and the second ran well for about two years until I let it overheat twice, in which it got the RRoD a few days later.
Thankfully, the three year warranty allowed me to send it in. Got it back in about a week, replaced the heat sinks and the fried chip. Works like a charm now, and is much quieter then before.
Microsoft is generally not that generous, but they seem to care about their customers enough that they extended the warranty for RRoD to three years instead of one. For free, mind you.
Oh, and they allowed pre-order of Windows 7 HP for 50 dollars. The price of a freaking Wii game. On top of that, Vista users can upgrade to Windows 7 FOR FREE.
Enjoy your $300 Mac OSX Leopard, you pawns. With little to no differences, I bet.
/rant. Sorry. Don't flame me, either. I just get like that sometimes...
While I have no sympathy for Mac users, you have it all backwards.
Microsoft doesnt care for you. The fact that they "extended their warranty" is not because they are concerned for you. Its just simple damage control. And The fact that you can get Windows 7 for 50 bucks or if youre using Vista [SIC!!!!] you can upgrade for free is even more obvious damage control. Vista was utter shit and a complete disaster of an OS which got barely usable only during the last year, even then taking needlessly more resources to run than actually needed.
In short, Microshaft are idiots, but its thanks to the very, very tolerant "well take everything if its in shiny package and looks cool" market that they are still in business.
If you're thinking like that, then you can put every bit of good customer support down to 'damage control'. It's a glass half full/empty kind of thing. Personally, I have nothing but respect for Microsoft's customer service department and their willingness to replace/mend every broken 360 for no charge, and extend the warranty every time it happens. Obviously there are trading standards and industry guidelines they have to follow too, but they are still on course to lose billions because of this. Admittably it shouldn't have happened in the first place, but at least they are admitting their faults and doing the right thing about it.
My 360 has suffered from the red ring twice, the first time was about 2 years after buying the console, the second six moths after that. Both times a private courier came to collect my console within 24 hours of contacting customer support and i had my console back within one week. They repaired my console the first time, and the second time they sent me a replacement. I guess it must have been pretty badly broken...
Dealing with MS support is "usually" a pretty pleasant experience. Microsoft's follow up on the 360 hardware failures have been pretty amazingly good too. And before anyone says "ZOMG BUTT REPORTS OF ERRARS WE'RE EARLIE!", you gotta remember that they actually have to recognize the problem properly and be sure it's not a consumer issue at work (like, let's say a billion idiots trying to ram butter knives into their disc treys to pull out the trey so they can swap discs)
Though, in general, I have mostly pleasant experiences with most support lines or stores when it comes to "repairs". It might be because I'm in touch with them to get something fixed and not to flame some poor bastard.
There have, of course, been a couple of times where I feel like I'm being accused of something when contacting the support line of certain companies. Which is a really annoying thing, and shouldn't really happen.
Also, as for past generations of hardware...
In general, I have a pretty good experience with previous hardware. Though, I did kill a SNES and I did have to replace the connectors on a good few NES units in the past, thanks to their connectors being stupid. Never had a problem with any of my N64s, GCs or Xbox's, but worn out one PS1 and swapped a lens on the second, burned through several PS2s and, again, swapped a lens on my current one (+done the same lens swap butch job on a bunch of PS1+PS2 systems for various people, mostly early EU launch models)
Wow, so much fanboy hate for all factions from all sides.
ANyway, as of today:
Xbox 360: 2 breakdowns, no RROD, currently on my third console.
PS3: 0 breakdowns
Wii: No breakdowns *although collectively i've only used it like 10-11 times at best*
PS2: 2, one was a launch version I had till 3 years ago, the 2nd was a slim I had for 24 hours until I realised it didn't run Dual Layered discs so got a refund and replacement.
PS1: Launch Version, still working as of today.

Well, well. You are correct, for the most part.
I was being partly sarcastic, but I know that Microsoft is like any other giant monopolizing corporation. They could care less about their customers for the most part. But saying that extended warranty and allowing a free upgrade under specific circumstances is just "damage control, well, like Gideon said, you're bringing down every bit of good customer service
Yes, Vista was terrible. It was memory hogging, came with a lot of useless junk, and was overall bad. Windows 7 will change that. Microsoft knows it sucked, and still does, so at LEAST they sort of admit their faults. Though, the RC has so far gotten favorable reviews, which is why I'm looking forward to it. As a matter of fact, I'd build my own computer, but I don't know how and am only 14 years old, so I'm not exactly in a position to just start buying all the parts necessary to build one.
In response to that last bit: Isn't that the Mac end user base? MS prettied up Vista for those who are obsessed with a shiny looking GUI, while XP (so far MS's best OS) came in looking all plain, yes, but in the end, that seems to perfectly describe those who will pay over 1000 dollars for an OS built in with shiny buttons and rainbow colors.
And no major corporation is safe from being criticized for being complete jackasses and not giving a crap about the average person, really. Even Apple is guilty of this with their clever yet deceitful marketing campaign of putting an "i" in front of every product they make. It never made sense, and never will, but people still buy it for that reason, I'm sure.
Oh, and I wasn't kidding about the free upgrade. Those who are using Vista Home Premium, Business, and Ultimate BEFORE Windows 7 is released will get a free upgrade to Windows 7. And it must've have been purchased pass a certain point. I think it it is June 26. Yeah, it still has its limits. But, the good thing is, that applies to me.
And the discount sale ended a couple weeks ago. Heh.
It's not hard building a computer from scratch everything is much pretty straight forward all my electronics experience is taken from taking things apart and putting them back together to get a greater understanding how they work, trial and error / process of elimination.

Ah, I see. Yeah, I figured it wasn't too hard.
But then there's money involved...
Something I can't freely spend on right now. My parents got a hold on my funds and want to decide how I use it. Ridiculous, if you ask me...
