The Thing, while really a readaptation of Who Goes There (short story), is widely considered a remake of the Howard Hawks picture The Thing From Another World. Nonetheless it's a great film; horrifying uses of gore in a lot of scenes, cold suspense and an ambiguous villain make the movie a horror classic.

The Invasion of the Body Snatchers is another good remake (1978 version). Really bleak movie, from beginning to end. I don't like watching it because it's so depressing.

Remakes that have come around lately are mostly crap to average. Halloween was crap, Friday the 13th was average, Texas Chainsaw Massacre was average, Black Christmas was crap. I cannot believe they're remaking Suspiria. While I don't like the film as much as most people (I think Deep Red is much better), I can't see how you can remake a specific style. The film will be horrible any way you look at it. It would be like if Stephen King wanted to readapt The Shining because he didn't like Stanley Kubrick's-oh wait.

totally off topic but did you guys know that the Texas Chainsaw Massacre never happend?
it was inspired by true events (mostly inspired by Ed Gein) and the director came up with the idea of it when he was in Sears and got lost and was in the tools department and it was packed and he looked over and saw a chainsaw and thought what would the people do if i started it up?
and thus the idea of TCM was born.

dont believe me, do your research.

Yeah it's true a lot of people can take vague news stories and turn them into these detailed serial killer accounts. If you read "liked to use bones as furniture, wear skin, etc etc" about a killer you could make a movie like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and say that it's based on a true story, which would sort of be correct. Norman Bates from Psycho was also kind of based on Ed Gein, and so was Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs (along with Ted Bundy and others).

Oh, didn't even know I put books up there. Damn edit button. Is it possible, though, to remake a book?

I'm eagerly awaiting the Pokemon G/S remakes because they were the best of the series and this will give them compatibility with this generation of Pokemon games. It's a remake which is really deserved, although I only agree in the idea of remakes if the original needs one. RE2 doesn't, RE3 doesn't. CVX does, Pokemon Gold/Silver do. Don't fix what isn't broken.

I think hollywood is running out of ideas because if a movie is good then why remake it? (O right easy money) If it blows than just forget about it and leave it be. The only movie that was remade that I liked was Scarface. I'm a fan of both movies and the remake was able to bring the movie into a new generation and also saying with the same theme.

YES. Oh, my God, yes! I cannot wait for the Gold & Silver remakes! I'm really, really excited to play those. I pretty much love all the generations of Pokemon (including the very recent ones), but I think the 2nd generation games were my favorite.

                          Totodile ftw.

Same here. I really hope we will be able to visit the Kanto region again.

I enjoy the recent games, but I found Diamond/Pearl difficult to get into. My favourite's are FireRed and Gold/Silver. Remaking G/S is just great and it'll be brilliant to get to visit Kanto on the DS and see all of the old school pokemon again. I'm a big fan of the original games.
