I am an only child, but it hasn't affected my desire to one day get married and have children. My ex and I both very much wanted to have children after we got married, but it would have been extremely difficult with her $130,000+ debt, and she wasn't willing to wait until we got it down to something a bit more manageable before having children. It certainly didn't help that her mother apparently kept telling her not to worry about her debt in relation to being able to afford having children.

I'm an only child and it's not affected my attitude towards relationships. I do want kids eventually, but wouldn't really say I am a "broody" person. Most of the time I find kids annoying but wouldn't be the same if it was my own. Every time I see kids, they are either annoying me at a restaurant or screaming.

(That's not meant as an insult or cut against you, by the way. I just thought that someone who was into bestiality wouldn't, you know, be into humans so much.

I really like the independent feeling, and not having to answer to someone else. Some of my friends are in relationships and I'm always hearing about how they have to tell their boyfriend/girlfriend what they are doing, and in some cases the boyfriend/girlfriend gets annoyed because they aren't hanging out with them. Stupid.
I think my lack of interest stems from being an only child. I've talked to other only children and some of them are like me: Not really interested in relationships, not interested in children, et cetera. I believe the psychology behind this is because when you're younger you aren't really interacting with a lot of people, so you turn inward a bit and become extremely independent (which I am).
I also like the idea of spending my money on myself. Call me selfish, but it's nice to buy $400 coats and $60 video games when I feel like it and not have to think "Gee, is my anniversay coming up? Do I have to take her out to dinner tonight? Does the child need braces?"
I can see the appeal of a relationship though.

Are you an only child? I'm curious. Or did you grow up in a situation to where you pretty much were an only child?Last edited by Inferno04; 10-02-2011, 01:26 PM.

My folks said that once when they took myself and my brother and sisters grocery shopping like 27 or so years back we ended up throwing a fit in line for whatever reason(just from being small children I assume) so my Dad had my mother take us out of the grocery store back tot he car while he paid for everything. Problem solved.
I dont see parents do this these days.

Its not that hard to get some control over a screaming child(more so after that 2 years old though) but a lot of parents just don't do anything about the problem.

Needless to say I am back with my girlfriend. I feel that the break we had made me realize a lot of things. I know that I love this woman and she simply makes me happy, without her nothing else really mattered to me. Got to love the drama. ;)Last edited by Trent; 10-08-2011, 06:54 AM.Freedom of Information.
