I think you can with water vapor / steam like when you breath on a cold day you can see your breath you could then probably project an image through it so it acts like a glass surface.

I laugh at people who say holographics will take ages to get to the stage I mention. Not ten years ago, we had 40GB HDDs whirring in our computers with 1GHz processors. Now we have 1000GB HDDs and 15GHz processors (3.75GHz quad cores, anyone?), and we can run games with almost photo-realistic graphics. 17 years ago, we were playing Wolf3D. Now? Look at the games we're playing. Science is advancing almost too rapidly. We'll have fully representational holographics by 2015, mark my words.
