OK, nemesiswontdie, missvalentine, you seem to have concluded this thread (and several others) are some kinda private conversation/argument between you two. Please don't do that. If you two wanna talk about something between the two of you then please, feel free to take it to PM or IM. The forums aren't really the place for these private arguments.

Yeah i said i was sorry about that. I didn't mean any offense. It was a stupid comment.

I like a good story too, hell that's why i play MGS, i don't play MGS for the gameplay, though i do like MGS's gameplay a lot.

But most games i do play for the gameplay, story is very important to but not as important to me as the gameplay, but there very close. I just don;t like this new trend of every game trying to have an "epic" feel to there game by adding a dramatic storyline to it, and changing characters personality's completely.

And not all shooters are just kill this guy, the end you know. They do have story's, but nothing serious, the story is just a way to make the gameplay more interesting. Like say in a war game have a plane crash in a field, your captain yells clean it out, then you man the guns in there and kill the Germans and on it goes. Simple plots like that, that help the gameplay along and make it varied and interesting are very good. Almost every game has some sort of plot to it. Even if it is the most basic type of game. But i don't like it when there would be a really cool and fun gameplay possibility that cannot happen because of story constraints. This also happens when trying to write a new entry into an existing canon, you have a lot of restraints and no full freedom. MGS works well like that but many other games don't.

Monster Hunter Freedom 2 the number 1 game on PSP has no story. But the gameplay drove me to put 900 hours into my character on gameplay alone.

I suppose someone who drives a vehicle isn't a driver either, but rather a NASCAR enthusiast who likes cars? Your logic fails on many fronts, which is almost as distracting as you using "your" when you should use "you're".

A gamer is someone who plays and enjoys videogames, on any console, of any genre, for his or her own reasons. Done deal.

On topic, RE5 is a good example of my personal preference. I enjoyed the co-op gameplay, but the story was garbage. So yes, I prefer gameplay over story.

I have always wanted to play that game. I suppose it's good.

It's a great game, but the learning curve is murder and will turn people who enjoy story over gameplay off

I think this sums up how I feel pretty well:

Co-op gameplay > story > multiplayer gameplay > singleplayer gameplay.

Mmm... Gameplay goes first then story. If you're an oldschool gamer, you know that games before where fun only by the gameplay. Super Mario Bros., Contra, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, etc. Those games had stories, but it was the gameplay that keep you playing. Obviously with the developing ot technology and the growing market it became natural to have this cinematic narrative on videogames.
The ideal is to have a nice blend of gameplay elements with a great story, but a greater focus on gameplay doesn't mean that is a game where you only kill everything.
Space Invaders didn't have an amazing story but it was enjoyed by hundreds of players...

Well, obviously. Older games didn't really have much story to deal with. Sonic the Hedgehog's story was...beat Dr. Robotnik, get some Chaos Emeralds, turn into a golden hedgehog god and fly around. I'm not sure when games started having real, deep stories, but the earliest games I can remember didn't really have any.

Now, however...story is an integral part of every gaming experience.

Story alone does not make a great game, name one game with crappy gameplay but a great story and you still enjoy it to this day...

Fahrenheit is a pretty good game, completed it about a month back. There is a ton of QTE in that game. Only paid 5 pounds for it on Xbox live, well worth the buy.

As far as this topic goes I'd rather 50/50 than having one better than the other. But if I had to pick one I'd say story.
