  • I'm working on an album

    Hey guys,

Please forgive this little bit of self promotion, but i'm currently in the middle of tracking demo songs for a full length record for my solo musical project, Stylites. I've played bass in a number of bands over the years and now i'm ready to try my hand as a songwriter. The current plan is to write an albums worth of songs over the coming months, demo them roughly on my computer and then have the actual recording taking place probably throughout Nov/Dec. It'll be entirely self produced and recorded with help from friends and instrumentalists to play the various parts i am probably incapable of such as percussion, piano, strings etc. I'll be writing the songs, playing guitar and bass and I have a willing 4 piece string section and 16 piece high school choir willing to participate - And HOPEFULLY a former session drummer from a famous and influential band (not saying who yet in case it falls through and i end up looking like a gloating dickhead), which is very exciting.

Anyway, if you are interested then you can check out a couple of demo songs at http://www.myspace.com/stylitesmusic - These are just the preproduction demos but they are sounding okay. So far, "Devour The Sky" is the only song on there that is guaranteed to be on the record, not sure about the others yet.

Anyway, thanks for reading/listening and please let me know what you think - Other people's opinions are important!

Edit - Oh, and yeah - that song called Alomar was written before i knew that Sheva would be a horribly annoying bint... I should probably rename it ;)

I can't check out your music atm.
But if you want to make money once everything is finished, you should look for a real label (of course), OR you could find a distributor to put it on Itunes and Amazon (suggesting a free one too).
There are some out there, and some are free, others, not so much...

Well since my music is pretty far from bankable, the plan is to look for a small distributor who can help get the record out in independent stores across the UK and maybe even Europe. Places like Fopp have goog systems for distributing works by unsigned acts. As long as they could do that for me then i'd be happy, because i'm really not all that interested in making money - i'd just like to be able to tick a box and say that i've achieved one of my lifelong goals.

      Thanks for taking a look

Gideon, wonderful tracks. Devour the Sky is surely to be on my top tracks list and rack up hundreds of replays.

Ill be giving a try for the others aswell and if something even better comes up, Ill make sure to give you some feedback.

              [EDIT]

Hahaha, looks like I didnt have to wait for long. The very next track (Hieroglyphics) was stunning. This is really quality work. Any chance I would be able to listen to some of them in higher quality?

You can both play when we do the THIA Convention.

                  Nice music, by the way.

This is relevant to my interests.

Oh, the Alomar track is fantastic.

Thank you all for taking the time to listen, and for the kind words - It's much appreciated! I'll keep you updated on the progress...

Oh, and Member of Stars, regarding your higher quality question there is unfortunately nothing of worth that i could send you at the moment i'm afraid - When the album is finished i'll probably post lossless/uncompressed wavs for everyone to enjoy without nasty mp3 compression. Thanks again!

Please do, because right now Im listening the tracks in low format, recorded using Sound Recorder.
