DM is the ultimate enforcer. I think these meetings would work out, but who knows. It would be funny even if there was like a video compilation of all of us, like a documentary.
"One can only match, move by move, the machinations of fate... and thus defy the tyrannous stars." Resident Evil/Castlevania/Silent Hill/Onimusha/Tekken/Dark Souls
Well, in fairness I am pretty much as homicidally violent in real life as I am on the interwebs. Hence why I am the head of security for Derby's J-Culture Con...I may walk with a cane but, on the other hand, I constantly carry a three foot long piece of metal or wood.
And yeah, somehow I expect there will be enough wrecorded evidence of any meeting between geeks of our level that it will be quite a long documentary. We'll just edit out the naked bits...mostly.
Oh dear, I was actually there when THAT one happened Helegad.
I mean, I think it would be cool to do but before going to one - just meeting up on Skype/MSN or something and talking would be a good start and if some have webcams, then for an actual meet-up later on there would be less "I dunno... are you [username]?" to some random that fits' another person's description if the user hasn't posted any photos OR video footage of themselves. So I do agree with STARS, on another note... Darkmoon... is completely on this topic.
Intraweb meetarps are either full of win or complete epic fail.
I'm interested to see how this one would go.
Had an interweb meeting back in 2001 or 2002 or something, I was 16 years old. You could categorize the forum as one of those "meet for sex" forums, even though 99% of the conversations held on the forums were about various everyday topics, from games to politics. I got to the meeting and I was the youngest who arrived, everyone else was at least 3-5 years older, most people were in their mid 20s and even up to 30s. It was one of the greatest meetups ever.
Usually, people who put an effort to show up on these kind of meetings are already pretty outgoing and socially active, so if there is an effort needed to get to the destination, its more than likely that its going to be full of win.
However, I do think that its almost impossible to organize a global meeting, even though Ive seen a videogame community meet in Las Vegas in the USA. Most participants were in between mid 20s up to 60s, from what I gathered, they had great fun.
Its definitely something to consider, but considering this community, its not going to happen. However, I am apalled that people in the same country are not really making an effort to meet up. Ive met all Estonian Resident Evil fans so far and I havent been disappointed.
I could do London, I suppose, but Derby is better. It's a more central location that's easy to get to via busses and trains. And I live there already, which means less effort for me and, as well all know, that is always a good thing.
