My two cents.
Anderson Silva's last few fights have made him unpopular, then again it might also be due to the lack of competition he has had of late that he's not knocking out people right and left, however, comments in his last fight against Thales Leites *said in Portuguese deliberately mistranslated by how manager* in his post fight interview were insulting to the fans and the sport, but went pretty much missed by English speaking media.
On paper I would begrudgingly give him best P4P fighter, however I find watching him fight about as interesting as watching grass grow although his counter fighting style is undoubtably effective.
Lesnar has yet to be truly tested simply because he's larger then the rest of the competition, the Heavyweight devision in the UFC isn't particularly stacked, probably why Dana White has tried to spin the story of attempts to sign Fedor Emelianenko, probably the only fighter in the business who could outgun Lesnar, but too Pricey for the borderline tight fisted UFC considering it makes money hand over fist with each PPV.
I think the most they have thrown at a fighter for a win of late was Lesnars guaranteed $400,000 fight purse for his win over Frank Mir, whereas Fedor's next fight in Affliction will net him around $2 million if memory serves, and I think the UFC would rather spin a "He's too cowardly to take a price cut, sign an exclusivity contract where we completely own your life, facial likeness and marketing rights to do with as we please and prevent you from representing your country in Sambo as we deem it a unsanctioned fight where we can't profit from it so he can fight our overhyped champion".
Somehow I can see why Fedor wouldn't take the fight.
Although I could see Shane Carwin doing the job against Lesnar providing he wins his next fight against Cain Velasquez.
I'll also add that I dislike Lesnar due to his WWE background, ignoring that he was a NCAA champion, so its clear despite his size he's definitely talented, I dislike how he's adapted the Vince McMahon/WWE school of playing a Heel to MMA, he comes off as childish and unprofessional in a time where MMA is trying to step away from stereotypes of simply being cage fights and barroom brawls, it reflects badly on the sport as a whole, however im sure Dana White and the UFC are laughing their way to the bank.
Lesnar guarantees PPV sales, and brings in the pro wrestling crowd, whether the more hardcore MMA crowd which to this point has been more of a devoted niche fanbase would want the pro-wrestling fan element surrounding the sport is another thing I wonder.
*Not to ramble about Pro-Wrestling, im sure its a hard job considering the wear and tear each wrestler goes through day in day out ignoring the fact that each match has a predetermined outcome.*
Lesnar is controversial, in the UFC for being gifted the championship in 3 fights, and in general because of his attitude, either way, it guarantees arses on seats and money in the bank from PPV's, either way the UFC wins despite sacrificing a little professionalism in the process.
