For the last week or so, the whole royal wedding crap is getting a lot of spotlight here in the States. Too much of it. And I had it with that shit.

I don't remember the media giving the Japan Earthquake/tsunami that much coveraged for more than a week and 24/7. I mean, unless your a chick or a regular GLEE/Dancing with the Stars/American Idol viewer, I don't see how anyone would give a flying fuck about some guy getting married to a lanky hat-wearing gal. And just because they're suppose to be royalty or whatever.

So I had to stop watching the news because of that damn wedding. The positive thing here, is that I got back to playing videogames.

Anywhoo... I just needed to get this out of my system.

I find it insluting to everyday people, just because they are "royalty" they get all that, whos not to say that a normal couple's wedding isnt just as beautiful and special to them?? It's all crap.

Completely agree. As a Briton I apologise to my fellow world citizens about this media saturation, I've never given a shit about the royal family and nor should any of you. It disgusts me to see the general public praising the royals when they don't care about us one bit. It's been that way throughout time. Look at Henry VIII, the man was one of the biggest bastards in our history. He lived an opulent lifestyle at the expense of the common man.

From what I gather, Prince William's wife is some rich tart, daughter of a millionnaire or some crap. Typical upper class agenda to keep the rich and powerful in power, looking after themselves. We're idiots for even caring about it and I for one am boycotting the wedding, I refuse to watch anything about it.

I'm all in favour of abolishing the monarchy altogether.

You should see what the UK TV is like during US Presidential Elections and the like. We get almost as much coverage of those as we do our own elections, although I suspect people here care slightly more about the American ones. The British Political scene has turned into this horrible haze of middle aged upper class men slagging each other off, with virtually identical polical agendas.

...and then wonder why no one votes. There's no difference between who you vote for, since it'll be exactly the same yelling and jeering at each other and trying to make sure the party members and there backers come out with a fat sack of cash.

That's how I felt when the fucking Pope had to come to Sydney/Randwick. We had religious people all fucking over, begging and the like without speaking a word of goddamn English and we couldn't do anything about it. All the shops were out of stuff, or shut due to people trying to sleep in them.

Why should you apologize? I would start by criticizing (y)our local media. Here the royal wedding has taken the agenda (that and John Paul II becoming a saint), when there are more important matters to attend (like drug trafficking, epic fires, floods and what not...).

I'm not a huge fan of the Royal Family, but it is a day for National pride and something to celebrate despite all the doom and gloom nowadays. Of course people are going to make a fuss, our Queen is the ruler of many places in the world (including Canada) and this means that one day Kate will be the Queen of England. Not as interesting as a coronation, but still. Don't know if we'll see much of her after the wedding but I'm not expecting the next Princess Diana Spencer.

Perhaps Henry VIII was a cock but if it wasn't for him, we would likely be ruled by Spaniards. It was his building of the British Navy that Elizabeth used to fend off the Spanish Armada. Even though historically we view Henry in a bad light, evidence has shown during his reign, a lot thought of Henry as a strong, respected King. Just think, he ruled for a very long time without being assassinated or overthrown, built a Navy, reformed the Church (albeit for his own selfish reasons) and became one of the most famous monarchs in English history.

I believe that drugs and shit should come second while royal events like the wedding should come first, because than later on we can focus on those issues. For example say we focus on drugs and shit and instead of planning the line of succession, because if the Queen should die and no one is next in line then we are as they say royally fucked. But that won't happen because the royal family said while we won't ignore drugs and violence, we shall put them aside from time to time to ensure the royal family is happy and content, and are able to continue regulating or/and ruling over the people.

Dude, two things. One, I simply don't care about the wedding, and certainly don't care about a wedding that will may well end up in another messy public divorce. I certainly don't want to see the wedding rammed down my throat all day, and haven't bothered turning on the TV today for just that reason. In today's society, drugs are an issue that affects millions. The royal family is less important. A royal wedding to the heir apparent? Even less. Do you really think if they had a small, private wedding the Prince and soon to be Princess would be any less happy? Of course not. The media bullshit is because it's news. They'd likely be as happy to have the registrar in and off to the honeymoon.

You're more than welcome to disagree, in fact I encourage it! Disagreement spurs discussion. Unfortunately what you've just done there is imply that anyone who dislikes the Royal Family is an evil drug-addled junkie, what do narcotics have to do with this? For that matter, what do the French have to do with it? Keep comments to ourselves? I guess in your ideal world we would have a population that kept quiet about issues that are important to them. I'll tell you what should come before the Royal Family, some social work on outlining the danger of drug use, working with the youth, helping the homeless and supporting those less fortunate than ourselves. But I'll keep such thoughts to myself, as you intend.

I've always been a socialist and Labour supporter, I vouch for the common working man, the real backbone of this great nation. Who built this country? The working man. Who generates the economy? The working man. All the Royal Family do is cater to tourists and that's just about all they're good for in day and age. All throughout our history, royalty has fucked over the public.
