  • Favorite George A. Romero Zombie Flick?

    I have seen:

Dawn of the dead Original and Remake

Day of the Dead Original and Remake

Night of the Living Dead Original and Remake

    Land of the Dead

I think Dawn was Ok, remake was OK, Night of the Living dead was good, both remake and original, but I like the remake better, Much better acting.

Land of the dead was mediocre. I was disappointed with this one.

But my Favorite is Day of the Dead (1985) (The remake was awful).
I thought there were interesting characters , good acting and the zombies looked the best to me. I know there is not as much Zombie action but the story keep me interested throughout the film. I also like the soundtrack which was sort of upbeat and dreary at the same time. Too bad George Romero had to change the script to fit the budget, may have been an even better movie? or not?

hmm it's tough I loved Night of The Living Dead and Dawn of The Dead a lot, they were both such great movies. There's was something about Night Of The Living Dead that was so engaging, the atmosphere that was created was tremendous.

The original Night of the Living Dead is crazy! It's a little slow in the pacing of the film at times but the story was good and the ending was epic.

yea NOTLD was very great, there was real tension and human survival in it, I didn't like the ending, I know it came out during times of segregation but now when you see it, it sends a chill down your spine, especially since they didn't just show him get shot but being hooked and dragged away, very disturbing

Dawn Of The Dead (original and remake) and Night Of The Living Dead.

Also, George Romero's new film Survival of the Dead is going to compete for the golden lion at the Venice film festival.

I know, he was the only one who had ideas on what to do, he was the leader, and the boss, was fun watching him puch Mr. Cooper lol

Very true, but at the same time, that was something that added to the horror factor. It makes you stop and think if the ending might have been the same had Ben been white, and I believe it probably would have. Killing the sole survivor of the ordeal by mistake with the group doing the shooting most likely having a shoot first, ask questions later mentality is chilling and brings that touch of emotion. I know when I first saw NotLD, I truly thought he was going to be rescued. I remember just sitting there for a few moments before feeling upset that he was dead. I was kinda let down too since I dislike it when characters I like die, or when we get an "everyone died" ending.

                        "Choke on 'em!"

Well the fact of the matter is, George Romero didn't see the Ben character as black. The actor (Duane Jones was it?) according to Romero was the best. That would lend some credence to your idea. On the other hand, the script's written for America, so a racism interpretation is valid.

Dawn of the Dead is my favorite. I don't think many people like the extended cut, but it's an immense film so why not? Compelling characters, a great sense of confinement, and well done effects. The scenes of simply running around the mall and exploiting the situation are fun. When reality (and the biker gang) hits the main characters, the tone changes. Even from the first time Roger gets bitten.

It's a toss-up between Night and Dawn of the Dead. Like people have said, the pacing of the first film is decent, and the ending is epic (if not a little sad and unsettling). However, in Dawn of the Dead you can truly see the extent of how bad the infection has gotten, leaving one with a sour, hopeless feeling. Especially when Fran gets progressively more pregnant, you realize how long they've been there, isolated from the rest of the world in an attempt to stay alive. It really sets the mood... so I'm going with the original Dawn of the Dead. The director's cut is awesome, btw.

Dawn (1978) is my fave closely followed by Day (1985).

Between the original Night of the Living Dead movie and Dawn of the Dead, it's really hard to choose. But ultimately I'd have to pick Night of the Living Dead. I watched it at a tanning salon I worked at in 9th grade.
