So my laptop recently died. It was an old beast, an unruly beast.

And it died, although secretly I'm glad, as now I have an excuse to get a newer better one.

the ironic thing is....I have no clue as to what is actually good/bad out of this new stuff. I mean, I know of Vista, and I heard it sucks; but now I'm hearing of windows 7...and I've no clue as to whether it's a better vista or a whole new os.

And for graphics card or processors, I'm as lost as a baby in a topless bar. Hard drives I know, but that isn't rocket science.

So I guess I should have paid more attention to the newer stuff. I just never thought I would need it so suddenly.

So could you give me a hand on the subject and shine some light for me please?

    Thanks guys.

Windows 7 should be standard now. Vista is fine, dont listen to the haters. Processor wise, you should be looking for at least a Core2Duo on the Intel side. Graphics, avoid Intel graphics at all costs. You can find decent laptops for around 1000$US if you plan on doing any gaming, 700$ minimum which should play stuff on low settings at best, any less and you are looking at 4 or 5 year old games. That should start you off anyway

Vista isn't brilliant, especially for a laptop because it eats up battery power. It's better in other ways though, but Windows 7, from what I've heard, is like a tuned up Windows 7, easier to use and I've heard really good feedback so I'd try to get Windows 7 if possible. I'd like it but I don't want to risk it knackering my laptop.
