  • Norman Bates (Perkins) vs. Hannibal Lecter (Hopkins) vs. Joker (Ledger)

    Smilin' Norman

    Hannibal the Cannibal

    And Joker

Now I personally don't think Ledger is even close to these guys but others do. So there ya go.

Who was the best movie antagonist?

Hannibal cooks Bates's spleen in a light broth and serves it in a bowl made out of Jokers skull. Very tasteful.
In other words, I think Hannibal is better.

Bates. Psycho still the finest example of building tension in a film, and the twist with Bates at the end is just perfect.

For me, it's a toss up between Bates and Hannibal. While Bates was tragic in a way, with the whole thing with his mum and all that, I felt sympathy for him in a way.

While Hannibal was just an outright GENIUS who also has a tragic past, but deals with it in an...interesting way. I think overall, my vote would go toooo...

        Bates.

welp, obviously they're all different in their own ways, except they all dealt with something in their early childhood.

bates is a man with multiple personalities due to the guilt for killing his own mother and suffering child abuse.

hannibal is cannibalistic serial killer that was traumatized as a child from seeing his sister killed and eaten.

and the joker is a city criminal whose only goal was to bring chaos onto Gotham City, and receiving scars by chid abuse from his father, or self-infliction to make his wife happy.

if anything, i'd say Hannibal suffered the worst during childhood.

I'm curious: How did Norman Bates end up in a new house in Psycho IV if he went back to the asylum in Psycho III? I never think they resolved that plot point.

Two sequels, one prequel, one spin off, and one very bad remake from 1998 all followed the original.

Oh my God, the remake was so bad it was funny. Ironic, considering Bates was played by funnyman Vince Vaughn.

^ What does that have to do with this debate again?

Well, Bates would lure Lecter into his hotel. Then Lecter would taunt Bates over his mother's death, then Bates would stab Lecter while he's the sower. But, Lecter's alive (oh no!), shuts off the power, and goes Buffalo-Bill on Bates, and (omfg) eats him! Then, the Joker would blow up the place. Then he'd accidentally drive his car into that nearby lake (if you've seen Psycho, you'd know, as this is the place where Norman dumps Janet Leighs car and body, iirc). "Dammit! I knew it was the goddamn Batman! *drowns*" Then Dr. Cameron (of 4D Executor fame! lololol) would resurrect them, and it'll only continue.

In a nutshell, if you put them against each other, they'd kill each other (imo), as each their own they have much wit, violence, and psychopathic impulses. This is imo, though, so don't eat me!

EDIT: I couldn't help but think that (rather off-topic) picture of James Dean looks a lot like James Franco...

                              A. Think it's been said a few times, but I'd edit your second post into your first one before a mod sees it. Not to be a goody-two-shoes or anything...

                              B. Again, what does he have to do with the debate?
