Why am I not surprised. Hollywood is really lacking creativty; everything is a remake, reboot or a sequel.

What Spiderman 4 need's to do is cut back on the love alittle and the whole idea of the City loveing Spiderman need's to be taken down abit because I fleft in 3 it was really silly.

But apart from that Malkovich as The Vulture awsome and Dylan Baker returning as Dr Connors great but as The Lizard im intrested I really hope it's better than what we got in Spiderman 3 game.

Someone needs to preread the thread before posting.

Yeah, anyway, if the Sturgess rumor is true, I like it. He was awesome in 21, and although I never saw Across The Universe, I heard he was good in that too. I feel like he could do a great job at bringing out Spidey's wiseass side which is something that was extremely prevalent in the comics and TV shows, but rarely delved into in the movies.

EDIT: Then again, he's already 32 years old. Can he really play a teenager, and then a man in his 20s when they come out with sequels?

EDIT 2: Marc Webb has been offered to direct the next 3 Spider-Man films.

Sweet. Jim is probably a nice choice.

This is interesting, Jim Sturgess was going to play the title role in Spiderman The Musical with Evan Rackel Wood as Mary Jane.

Marc Webb is officially the new director of Spiderman

I never understood why Julie Taymor wanted that. Directors will always have their favorites--and their muses--but if they were to be cast in Spider-Man musical, I think the magic of Across the Universe would deplete. I'd only ever be able to imagine them as Peter and Mary-Jane, and it would be so awkward. I like Julie Taymor’s work, and I was keeping up with the musical news for a while, but it just kept delaying, and I sort of fell out of it… Although, I do think I remember reading Evan Rachel Wood was confirmed.

Whatever... this topic isn't about the musical.

Back to depressing Spidey 4/reboot news. :[

At this point I'm not really concerned with what actors they are getting to play spiderman or any other character, just hoping that the story and character direction is good.

                          More Details

The plan for the movie is to be in the $80 million range and feature a cast of relative unknowns. And the story will be pared down to center on a high school kid who is dealing with the knowledge that his uncle died even though the teen had the power to stop it.
The touchstone for the new movie will not be the 1960s comics, which were the inspiration behind the movies by Raimi, who grew on up on them, but rather this past decade's "Ultimate Spider-Man" comics by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley where the villain-fighting took a back seat to the high school angst.

The ideology of Spider Man is simple: Choose between good and evil, then live with the circumstances - living with the responsibilty of your fate and actions, if you will.

What choices is Marc Webb going to give Peter Parker in High School? What pimples to pop before Peter goes to class? More 'I want Mary Jane" emo-crap? Even worse, more 'I feel like crap 'cause Uncle Ben's death" BS? We've seen most of this already, and Raimi did a superb job at it.

I wonder if this Marc Webb character is even a real fan of Spidey? It seems to me like he's set out to shit on all of Raimi's work, which is really saddening.

This is utter bullshit, and I will probably avoid seeing this movie.
                            I'm a blackstar.

                              Who is Marc Webb?

                              IMDB resume for Marc Webb:
                              2009 - ‘500 Days of Summer’
2005 - ‘Jesse McCartney Up Close’

                              Are. You. Serious?

Jesus Christ...this is Spider-Man. You take a decent young actor, put him in red & blue spandex, and direct him to swing around roof tops and kick the shit out of bad guys. That is exactly what the Spider-Man films were lacking (well, at least 1 and 2, I couldn't make it through more than 10 minutes of 3).

Enough of the "woe is me," heavy emo shit (which MarkGrass briefly mentions above). Make Spider-Man engage in some serious battles...Revenge of the Sinister Six type of brawls.

Signing Marc Webb, and reverting back to the "high school years," feels to me like they're trying to capture some of the Harry Potter/Twilight fans and all that bullshit.

Make. Spider-Man. Mature. And somewhat dark. Follow the recent Batman trend: gritty realism. Adult-theme.

Success will follow. At least in my opinion.
