I would love to be in the planning meetings for these movies...
'Gentleman! In Spiderman we have a series that has prooven popular, succesfel and financially viable. THIS CANNOT BE ALLOWED! We cannot allow such things for a franchise based on comic books! And we shall not! As long as I am in charge, gentleman, I shall see this franchise driven into the dirt, a massive financial and artistic loss! That is a promise!'.
APPLAUSE!

Now I'm hoping that this reboot doesn't already screw itself over. Wasn't sure on Andrew Garfield, but after seeing 'The Social Network' I think he's a fine actor and capable to play the part. I'm not sure on the rest of the cast, but I like Emma Stone a lot as well so hope she makes a much more memorable Gwen than Bryce Dallas Howard ever did.
The important thing is to not focus so much on the origin stuff anyways. We're beyond that.
off topic: I think it's sad that Spidey gets a reboot but not Resident Evil...the two big Sony money makers...sad world we live in.
Spiderman 3 was the studio's fault. They took over the production and the script, initially Spidy 3 was just about Spiderman facing off against the Sandman and Harry Osbourne.
But the studio finished reading the Raimis script and said 'You know, this is a really good script guys...where's Venom?' They pretty much forced Sam Raimi to shoehorn in a villain he didnt want to do, just because of how popular the character was.
Even though the made a decent profit of the movie, the studios blamed Raimi for the reason it wasnt as critically acclaimed as the second film. WHich is bullshit as I've heard that Marvel studios basically was micromanaging the film from behind the scenes.
Then as a bigger insult they allowed Raimi to turn in a script for the 4th film as well as pursue some casting...then pretty much flip him off and tell him that they were taking over from this point on.
Which was really offensive because Raimi had most of the original cast ready for a 4th film, as well as had John Malkovich ready to sign on as 'The Vulture'. I'm not a fan of the Vulture as a character, but I wasnt a fan of Dr.Octopus either, boy was I amazed at seeing what Raimi did with him in the second film.
Basically everything that Sam Raimi created has been declared obsolete and pretty much destroyed by Marvel studios/the Disney Corporation, just because they want to have something that they can have complete control over.
Thats also why I refuse to see this reboot bullshit. I'm a huge Sam Raimi fan and have always been amazed by his work as a storyteller, we all knew that Spiderman was in good hands because Sam Raimi was a Spiderman fan and cared about what he was doing with the character.
The new Studio Gestapos in charge of the franchise are interested in money, and money only. Not surprised though, that is the Disney way.
I had a lot of good memories of the Raimi Spiderman movies and I refuse to give my time or money to Disney for this fucked up power grab.

It seems that Peter Parker's parents will appear in the new installement according to casting reports, also the film will have one more villain called Nels Van Atter.
Irrfan Khan will play the second villain in the movie, a thug named Nels Van Atter who is somewhat of a mystery to fans of this particular franchise. According to Marvel lore, he is the evil Proto-Goblin, a research assistant to Mendel Stromm and employee of Norman Osborne (aka The Green Goblin}. He was used in the conducting of high-tech experiments, and served as a test subject for a chemical that was developed by Osborne and Stromm, which turned him into a red beast with fangs and claws.
George Stacy (the recently announced Denis Leary), Gwen's (Emma Stone) father and the Captain of Police, plays heavily into the original Proto-Goblin story as told in the comics.sigpic

A red beast with fangs and claws. Huh. Here I thought they were going for the Nolan take on Spider-Man. Although, "radioactive powers" hardly constitutes a Nolan-esque story.
Nonetheless, Emma Stone is the most beautiful actress alive right now in my opinion. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing her. Still, her father's played by *shudder*...Denis Leary. Why isn't he burning in Hell from putting himself on the map through his theft of Bill Hicks?Last edited by GuardhouseMusic; 12-04-2010, 07:46 PM.
