    Hey everyone
I have a question to ask but I'm a little concerned the moderators will have me burnt at the stake for doing so.Before I go ahead and ask I need to know THIA policy on mod chipping for the pure reason of playing imported games not pirated cds,is it cool to mention mod chipping as long as you clearly state its for imports or is the whole subject taboo?

Question is why would you mention mod-chips at all?

Because I'd rather have my current playstation be region free than having to buy a ntsc and ntsc-j playstation just for the sake of a few games.

I just wanted to know if anyone has any chipped psx consoles for sale or does anyone know where I can get one?
My only other alternative is to shell out £200 on a net yaroze console as all my previously proven methods for playing imports have started to fail me lately.I've already bought two bleedin psx(earliest models) in the hope of some success but noooooooo, its driving me mad!!

I believe the point of his question is in what context would you need to mention a modchip in a post, not your reason for why you want your console modded. Were you planning on asking for modchip brand suggestions or something? That's about the only reason I'd see this request being necessary for. We're not gonna question you on how you played an import or any game, as long as you don't specifically say or hint that you pirated it.

Modchips would be a little gray area I think. But I personally think as long as you don't discuss it in conjunction with admitting to using it for piracy or whatever, it should be ok here.

              Pretty much this.

But, really, I'm asking "why" it even has to be mentioned, as some people have an absurd need for putting emphasis on the most irrelevant subjects. It's as if just 'cause someone's talking about movies, they have to talk about which scene release group does the best encodes and where to download them with the most seeds. Even though that is completely irrelevant as far as "movies in general" goes.

Anyway, we don't want to see piracy here and we don't want to see anyone actively encouraging it either, but solutions for booting imports and backups have been discussed several times here on the forums - as it's necessary for playing various RE1-3 hacks on actual hardware, playing Outbreak online (unless you have a Japanese console) and for various other stuff too. Asking for input on what solution works best or something isn't against the rules, but people really need to ask themselves if this is the right place to ask such a question "in general".

Next time anyone has a concern about a thread they wanna make, they should just PM staff/mods about it and ask them directly if making the thread will be crossing the line.
