  • Vinyl's, Cassettes and CD's

I've recently been collecting a lot of vinyls and cassettes lately. I saw a few friends of mine putting up vinyls and such on their wall (a friend of mine has a first pressing Iron Maiden Killers vinyl framed and up on his wall) so I just started to do that when my mom brought me home Tool's Opiate and Lateralus vinyls the other day and yesterday I got NIN's UK Sin cassette (a cool touch of the cassette is the case it comes in, it comes in a cigarette pack style case) and I just got back from Best Buy and picked up A Perfect Circle's Mer De Noms and NIN's The Slip Vinyl.

Does anyone else collect rare CD's,Vinyls and cassettes or just music stuff in general?

I love cassettes. Not that great of quality but I dont have a cassette player anyways. I have a few cassettes, some are from my dads old cassette case which has: Prince, Pink Floyd's The Wall Marilyn Manson's Portrait of an American Family and Antichrist Superstar, Motley Crue's Shout at the devil and few others. I only have 4 which are NIN's Pretty Hate Machine, Sin (uk), Fixed and And All That Could Have Been.

Does T.a.t.u have any cassettes? I figured you'd be all over those.

They do indeed, but they're kinda rare, I've yet to buy them because I lack a cassette player.
I dont consider myself a collector, but I do like to get rare things when I have the money lol.

Tried ebay or amazon? Amazon's sellers usually have their prices way to high but you should try non the less.

I just got back from a vinyl/CD store today and they had Tool's Undertow Vinyl so I had to pick it up since it was only $20. They had Tools single Prison Sex for $20 as well but I decided to get the vinyl instead.

Being a giant music geek, I have boatloads of all three. I don't listen to any of my cassettes anymore though, because they degrade way too easily. I just keep them because I like the packaging and the memories...

On the other hand, I LOVE listening to the vinyls; Especially the old ones. It's awesome to listen to things like the original Queen records and imagine what it must have been like hearing them back in the '70s... It's super fun! I'm hoping to go on a vinyl run this weekend and get some great stuff. The awesome thing about second-hand vinyl records is that you can usually get a LOT of them for super cheap.

I buy a lot of CDs and a bit of vinyl too. Usually don't go for casettes.
There's 2nd hand record sales every month or so where I live, so a friend and I usually hold out for those then spend heaps. Can get real bargains, but also get really rare items there too.

I have a handful of vinyl records, well, then again, my parents have two cabinets worth. Stuff like the Beatles disccography (even though I can't say they're in the best condition), classical music, Brazilian stuff, 70s R&B, etc. Though most of the records I've bought are contemporary bands, I've "inherited" some from my folks collection (such as Sly and the Family Stone - Stand <3)

Plus a couple of boxes of CDs.

My parents were trigger happy on buying vinyls in the 70's and 80's haha, but what can I expect?
My dad has a COLLECTION of vinyls; I really prefer Vinyl over CD, it sounds alot better, and for some reason, Picture Vinyls and Colour Vinyls look alot more nice than disk art IMO.

I left them all at my dad's house and I no longer have Vinyl player :-(, totally agree nothing matches the Vinyl sound.

I'm a Jungle/Drum & Bass musician/producer so vinyl is a pretty big deal for us, I don't own any however but I have a few old cassettes from back in the day. Logical Progression by LTJ Bukem for example. As for CD's I did own Jungle Massive when I was younger which is pretty rare now, and a few early DnB CD compilations.

I love buying music in physical format. I mostly buy CDs because I do not own a cassette or record player anymore, but if I do buy vinyls I listen to them in my parents' house. I have quite a lot of CD's, never counted them so I've no idea how many.

I find it a shame that the music business is going more and more into the direction of just digital downloads, buying a record for me has always been more than just listening to it, I also love reading the booklet and enjoying the pictures and such.

Well record companies finally realized that a lot of people are stealing music and not buying the cd's,vinyls or cassettes and that is a waste of money for them because they are paying to make things that a low % of people will buy.

I personally like having my music in physical forum, I get to look at the cover, booklet,cd art and everything else (lets not forget reading the actual right lyrics, unlike some sites which have the wrong lyrics written).

I dont have a record player or a cassette player any more either but if you didn't see the opening post I do have vinyls which I decorate my wall with or other music memorabilia and game stuff.

Digital Downloads are also the same price as the physical item, I find that absolutely absurd.
I don't like paying for what I can get in like 2 seconds with Google free.
Course, I don't do that; I appreciate art, the case, the cd, the booklet and any other tibits thrown in.
You can't download a physical case, cd and booklet, but you can download the cover picture and song for free on the internet, which is why I don't like digital downloads, because it'll be identical to the Itunes version of Amazons.
