Yeah, MK2 was really bad. The costumes were horrendous and made the cast look like bad cosplayers. The acting was abysmal and the fight scenes were messy and badly choreographed with too many wires. Stupid movie that should have never been made. MK1 was by no means a masterpiece, but it was a fun little martial arts / action film that paid homage to a popular game series.
Although, I have a glimmer of hope for Prince of Persia.
PoP is a decent action-adventure movie; however, although it more or less captures the atmosphere of Sands of Time (the game), especially when it comes to Prince-Tamina interactions, it has very little to do with the games (besides the sands of time). The story, characters - everything is different. Still, a good summer blockbuster.
And about worst games to movie adaptation - I would go for "The Legend of Chun-Li". The JCVD's "Street Fighter" at least doesn't take itself seriously and is full of cheese; the new SF movie tries to be serious, but ends up being just stupid.
- Resident Evil Apocalypse, Extinction and possibly Afterlife. (First one was ok, though).
- Mortal Kombat 2. (I agree with it being like a bad cosplay effort).
- Everything directed by Uwe Boll.
- Doom (what? Evil is determined by DNA? Fuck that, I want my hellspawn!)
- Super Mario Bros. (FULL of FAIL, except for Bob Hoskins)
- Street Fighter (oh man... Where to start with this one).
I'll take any animated/CGI movie over any live action flick.
If RE was handled by same team as the Biohazard 4D Executer video it would of be great the only decent re film in my books, shame they didn't work on degeneration instead we got fucked up lip-sync, dodgey animations and a numb Leon.
I saw the first 30 minutes of Alone in the Dark and I didn't want to see anymore.
That's the only REAL exposure I've had with a Boll film besides the internet critics who rip on them constantly. As long as I don't have to watch them I'll look at 'em in a "so bad it's good" way with scenes such as this
Mortal Kombat 2 and The Legend of Chun-Li are close in quality. Just horribly made films, not even appealing on a fun basis.
A lot of video game movies, you can pretty much tell right away if it is going to be something spawned from the feces of retarded demons or if it will be okay.
For example, Silent Hill has an interesting trailer from what I can recall. I mean, it was clearly enough to get me to watch the movie, and I actually liked that movie. I realize some people are under the impression that if a movie based off a video game does not mimic that video game nothing short of perfection, then it is automatically deemed "stupid."
"OMGZ! Wesker'seS SunGlasses aren't be dat size! GARR! They R 2 roundeseses."
And back to my thesis on good/bad trailers making/breaking the movie: The Chun-Li one...Oh, dear Satan...I'm sorry any one paid to see it.
Anyway, some are good some are bad, naturally, but these are merely interpretations of a video game...And yes, sometimes interpretations are bad.
The worrying thing is that Sub Zero and Sub Zero's brother do pretty much the same thing, Sindel and Kitara pretty much do the same thing and Johnny Cage does die...it was actually worryingly true to the games in ways.
And yeah, I think Uwe Boll has to take the cake, and then shit it out, because that's how he makes his bloody awful movies. The only one I've ever heard anything positive about is Postal.
