  • Highschool of the Dead, anyone watching it?

So about a week ago I was trying to find anything new related to zombies and accidentally came across the anime "Highschool of the Dead" based on the manga of the same name. I not really into anime and manga like a lot of people are, but I thought I'd share this with the community due to it genre.

    Trailer:

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Its about a boy named Takashi Komuro and his childhood friend Rei Miyamoto. Rei liked Takashi, but of course he never told her he felt the same, so she took it that he didn't like her. So she later ended up dating one of his friends named Hisashi. Well the 3 are pretty good friends, during a seemingly normal day, Takashi was outside on the school stairwell hanging out, and noticed a few of his teachers standing around the front gate trying to tell a man who is just standing there to leave the school grounds. He is of course a zombie and soon kills the teachers at the gate, who then also become zombies.

Takashi runs inside and tells Rei and Hisashi to get up while they are in class, he lets it known to everyone in the class that teachers were attacked at the front gate. Soon an announcement is made over the school intercom and then all hell breaks loose. Students trample all over each other and are being attacked and eaten left and right. We are introduced to 3 other students: Saeko Busujima - president of the school's kendo club (she's also a sadist apparently), Saya Takagi - the smart girl of the group (also a bit of a bitch), Kohta Hirano - The gun otaku (he makes a stock for a nail gun to give him more accurate aiming, awesome right?). And we are also introduced to the extremely well endowed(well all the girls are actually) and a bit dense, school nurse, Shizuka Marikawa.

Well the cast soon learns its a global epidemic from the news, and thus try to survive.

So far i'm really enjoying it. Its animated well and its pretty damn gory. It does have some of the quirks many animes like to use. Examples:

    - Girls with really big boobs and lots of panty shots. (yet most of these girls kick major ass). Im not sure too many people have a problem with this lol.

    - Those characters who freak out at the worst possible time.

It uses the slow moving zombie and they seem pretty threatening. The whole show kind of reminds me of the old school zombie (which is awesome), and older zombie movies in general.

The show tries to balance seriousness with dark humor. Example being

    Spoiler:

That scene cracked me the hell up.

I really recommend a watch or read for anyone who is really into zombies and needs something new. The anime is only on episode 3 for those who try to look for it.

    So anyways, thoughts? opinions?

So they actually made an anime off of the manga? That's awesome! I only read a little bit of it around the time it came out, but this, I might as well watch.

I read the first like two or three books I think, this is awesome gonna have to take a look at this thanks atlier. Just noticed it's by studio that made Black Lagoon wonder how much they'll say the F-word in this one . . .

Maybe a bit too much "jiggling" and "pantyshots" for my liking but still pretty good so far . . .

I only read the manga version and I like it. There are many references to various zombie medias including Resident Evil and Shaun of the Dead.

          YES.

I am watching it. And I started reading the manga, too.

And I noticed that a lot, xfactor. The one that's got me the most so far is the rendition of In the House - A Heartbeat, which is the outstanding track from 28 Days Later.

Then there's the Resident Evil 2 reference in the third episode with the truck crash. Made me chuckle to myself.

I'm enjoying it a lot right now despite the jiggling and panty shots (which I don't entirely not mind, I'll admit). Though I don't know if I should keep reading the manga and staying ahead or just wait for the episodes to release and watch it as it goes along...

My best friend is currently watching this, I'll wait until an English dub comes along and if that never arrives, I'll just eventually watch it with subs.
Supposedly its very...dramatic, which I like.

only drawback with the anime is that its only having a 13 episode run =/

Although I love the manga and the anime is fantastic so far begs to question though if this is gonna go all elfen lied and have a different ending in the anime to the manga as the manga is still on going.

Well if it does really well, maybe it will get another set of episodes penned?

Reminds me of Black Lagoon when that happened. It got another set of 13 episodes. Not only that, but it got another set up episodes recently!

Yeah, that happens to some animes. I think that happened to Samurai Champloo in particular.
