Alright, folks. Let's not all get angry. It's not gonna do anyone any good that's for certain. Spencer's attempts to brighten things up may not have been the best course, but his heart was in the right place.
This whole event is tragic, and causing a lot of problems. And deaths are never good. Hopefully, everything will drain off soon and things can begin going back to normal.

"There was some initial relief that the Brisbane River's morning peak wasn't quite as high as projected. There is another peak to come this afternoon, but it will be in the days ahead that the true destruction wrought by the 2011 flood will start to become clear."
Hopefully the worst is over, but there is soo much damage, I'm not looking foward to seeing how many people passed away.

I just read a story of a woman who lost her sister, her sister's partner and her nephew in the flood at Grantham (for those who don't know, that was the area worst hit by the flash flood, now referred to as "Ground Zero"). Her sister had called her, frantic as the house was falling down around her. The sister lived a few streets away and knew the water was up to their waists at that point and there was nothing she could do to get there and help them. She said her goodbyes to her sister then spoke to her nephew, asking if he could get their belongings. He said they were in the loungeroom. She asked if he could get the family in there and wait it out and he said "Bessy, the loungeroom has been torn off and is floating away." The rest of the house collapsed shortly after and all 3 people inside perished. Truly sad.
I can't imagine how much more heartbreak will come today now that the water is receding. Also, the latest tally has gone from 49 missing back up to 76. The next few days will make these numbers fluctuate over and over.
Also, here in Bundaberg once again we're having a minor flood peak. We haven't had rain for over a week now and the river is bursting it's banks and some streets in town are already closed. If we get another deluge, we'll go under for sure. Every dam across the state is overflowing, some are threatening to split their walls which will just cause more chaos.
I forgot to mention that for those of you overseas, to get an idea of how much land this is affecting, think the distance from England to Italy completely underwater.

My workplace is taking donations for flood relief. Hopefully everyone can pull together and pitch in something, as being in Melbourne there's not alot we can do directly.
I heard on the radio driving home today that when the water has receeded somewhat tomorrow they can begin searching for bodies. Truly sad stuff - I hope there's not too much more bad news to come.sigpic

^ So is mine, we're helping out and taking donations for the Salvation Army's donation drive but Dogs NSW and the other state, national groups are also taking money to help support those who have suffered in the flood, as well as any animals that may have been injured or have lost their owners to be rehomed and the like.

Well Bundaberg is going under AGAIN! Thankfully it's only a minor flood at the moment, but it's cut the city virtually in half with many busy roads being cut. And with the major highway cut both north and south, supplies are very limited. Hercules aircrafts are flying in to bring supplies and the trucks delivering them from the airport are under police escort. If we get anymore rain (which if this cyclone ends up crossing the coast we will get some) then we are screwed again.
And Enetirnel, I hope your friends and family are safe. I'm glad you guys weren't on the property at the time this hit. So far confirmed deaths are at 15, and missing has dropped back to 61, but these numbers will change by this afternoon. I really want to commend the SES crews, Emergency Crews, Salvos, RSPCA, Police, Defence Force and anyone else volunteering during these events. They have done an admirable job and if it weren't for their swift responses, I'm sure the death toll and missing persons count would be much greater.

Mr. Spencer, I made this thread for all natural disasters happening in the world, not just Australia. We heard about the floods in Sri Lanka and near Rio de Janiero just this afternoon and that too is clearly a terrible tragedy. Nearly 500 dead is a phenomenal amount to comprehend and is very sad.
