  • Superman Reboot

Fan of Supes here bringing you the latest on the next Superman film.

We've been down this road before. Writers and directors get attached, and the film goes nowhere because of creative differences to scheduling.

Superman Returns suffered from this. I liked the movie, but honestly I felt the film was confused as to what it wanted to be. There were some great decisions like Kevin Spacey as Lex and using the John Williams theme for example. But at the end of the day it was continuation of the franchise that acted as both a sequel and a reboot to the series Christopher Reeve previously starred in. Needless to say that while critics liked it the film didn't meet much expectations even with the nods to the classic Reeve films. It was a puzzle piece forced in the wrong puzzle.

So now we have a full on reboot. New writers and directors were rumored. Warner Bros. finally settled on Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) directing and Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) producing. My reaction..............

Today I have received official confirmation that Tudors star Henry Cavill will portray The Man of Steel.

Sure he's no Nicolas Cage, but give the man a chance!

As of now I have yet to find out if characters such as Lois, Lana, Lex or Jimmy will be in the film.

Though people are tired of Lex always being the main villain I certainly wouldn't mind having him back so long as there's another villain on board for Superman to face off against. General Zod, Brainiac, Doomsday, Darkseid, Bizarro, Metallo.... Anyone would be better than this guy.

    Still....

As long as I'm making this topic I think I might as well post who I would like to see play Lex Luthor. He was my runner up to Kevin Spacey, and he's perfect.

    That's right. BILLY FUCKING ZANE!!!

If this guy doesn't end up as President of the United States by the end of this reboot then I will be sorely disappointed. This should be his comeback film.

Personally, after getting myself caught up to the present on Smallville, I think the cast of that show has done one hell of a job with the Superman mythos. I could see Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum reprising their roles as Clark Kent and Lex Luthor. I thought Rosenbaum did a fantastic job of playing Lex Luthor.

They're good, but honestly I stopped watching the show after the seventh season. It was getting pretty stale without Rosenbaum. But James Marsters as Brainiac was very cool. He went on to voice Lex in the Doomsday animated movie.

Just bring back Terence Stamp for General Zod. He can still do it.
        See you in hell.

General Zod would be old as hell then...I do however agree that the show lost something when they "killed" Luthor, but for her part Mercy did an excellent job of picking up the pieces. Although I have to say her turning to the hero's side wasn't exactly what I was expecting. I missed the most recent ep, but I'm keeping my eyes and ears closed until Wednesday when it repeats.

Jesus... first Simon gets to say who can be an idol in America... then Piers Morgan replaces Larry King... then Superman is played by an English actor.

Next thing you know we'll have tea parties... Oops, we already have those:

What's the big deal? We still have plenty of American heroes out there. Like Batman and Spider-man for example....

I still think Brandon Routh got screwed. I thought he was a great Superman and Clark Kent, but the material he was given to work with was pretty flat. Even so he was one of the few things in the film than really stood out.

It's a shame, but to his credit he still got to play Supes on the big screen so he had that going for him. Same for Kevin Spacey.

I just hope this reboot does well. I like Snyder's previous films including his surprisingly great Dawn of the Dead remake. But on the other hand I really enjoyed Bryan Singer's movies as well, and Superman Returns wasn't the big hit I was hoping for. I think part of that is because he was really just going off Richard Donner's vision rather than his own so it came out like Superman "Reruns" rather than "Returns". That and the other reasons I stated above.

Either way I can only hope for the best with this reboot. I know people think it'll be instant win just because Nolan is involved, but the guy has his own hero film to direct so I doubt he'll have as much involvement as people are expecting.

Nah, I'm fine with it. They went for the best actor. Who cares where he's from.

But no one in the US can complain anyway.... because... well...

Well we could have had a Russian actor playing Supes....

Too bad they didn't give Routh a second chance.

Hail to your new England overlords.

It's crazy to think on how many British actors are currently playing the most iconic superhero characters out there. Henry Cavil is a great actor in the Tudors, mind you. I can see him doing a great superman.
