  • 5 Reasons Pop Culture Is Run by Fan-Fiction

If you spend much time online, the words "fanfiction writer" probably don't fill you with gushing respect. For those lucky enough not to know, fanfics are amateur, nonauthorized stories relying on the plot or characters already created in movies, television shows, video games and just about everything else that you can imagine.

In other words, it's pretty much the text-based equivalent of pirating someone else's music, remixing it badly and then shouting your own inferior lyrics over the top. Luckily, it's confined entirely to a small Internet subculture, and we can congratulate ourselves on having nothing to do with it ...

Or maybe not. Fanfiction is actually everywhere, and in some ways you're already a fan.

S.D Perry is a perfect example of someone who wanted to make her own version of RE in those books. Tbh they weren't that bad, but that's probably because I'm a Rebecca fangirl. Most of the time the fans make better versions of the stories/series/movies than the makers themselves.

    Cool article, thanks for sharing.

In some cases ... I agree that some RE fans write much better stories for the RE series than the stories Capcom's producers came up with for, let's say, RE5.

      And you're welcome TheMedic.

Yeah I totally agree. If only Capcom would actually listen to the fans. It is funny though when some people take the fan fiction too far with the romance and pairing. There's nothing like a good ol'e Wesker/Chris vampire romance.

I personally frown upon the Wesker/Chris pairing myself, mostly because Chris and Wesker have been sworn enemies ever since the Arklay Mansion incident. And I heavily doubt that those two hate each other so much that, all of a sudden, they devoloped a hidden desire to "do the wild thing" on each other.

EDIT: Now don't get me wrong, I don't mind fans writing yaoi/yuri fan-fics, I just would prefer if the fans developed a bit of logical thinking when it comes to pairings such as Chris/Wesker and why such a pairing would never work (AU fics aside).

Haha yeah I agree, that's why I added the eyeroll. I don't mind a few pairings, but the main thing about RE is survival horror. Some people try to turn it into a Nicholas Sparks type romance and that just makes me facepalm big time.
