You're saying this after admitting you learned to love Anderson's RE films?

So have others on the site, and I've explained why. For the entertainment and cheese, and they've made a lot of money so others must too. Seems like you need to get over it. I've never claimed to like the RE films for 'horror'.

If you want to be a serious critic and compare horror films, you don't base their quality on what monster you'd rather be killed by.

Wasn't saying that I just find your comment on disregarding plots, acting, atmosphere and stuff, but at the same time you seem to quite like the RE films which lack the quality of Event horizon and Aliens, amusing.

I don't think I'll ever really get over it. So many people flock to terrible films knowing they're going to be bad just proves the stereotype that the audience doesn't really care what they watch as long as it has a brand name. This also proves that by this the shcmucks who are responsible for these shitty films get rewarded by copy and pasting bits and pieces from better films, thus proving that audience, and the studio's don't really care about originality or even good ideas as long as they are entertained.

For a guy like me thats a truly depressing truth and it infuriates me.

But why does it bother you so much? It means as little to me as if I was watching some brand new cheesy action IP. I just go for shits and giggles really. I completely separate the movie universe from the game universe. It's a name, nothing more. Perhaps it would mean more to me if I was still bothered about the series but I'm not. I love the old games but have accepted they are never coming back, so not overly fussed about what new shit comes out under the RE brand. I'll play them still, but won't get hyped or even that interested. Until Capcom pull their act together and sort out a decent DMC sequel and make something of the RE4/REmake calibre, I shall stick to hyping for Mass Effect 3, Deus Ex 3 and Starcraft 2 HOTS.

At the end of the day though, that's what people are paying for. They want to be entertained. Yes, some movies are better than others...while the RE movies do well, they're hardly top grossing films as I understand it. Some people enjoy them for what they are - brainless action flick with a thin veneer of horror, others, such as Alexia, find there amusement in the dumb dialogue and over the top cheese. Even I admit it's hilarious to play the RE Movie drinking game.

                    Here's how to play. Take a shot when the following happens;
                    - You see more of Alice than you really wanna.
                    - Alice defies the laws of physics. And Common Sense.
                    - Alice fights and everyone watches in awe.
                    - A plot hole occurs.
                    - The story Jumps the Shark (tunnelling Zombies?)

We can be snobby and judge as much as we want, but the truth is, enough folks enjoy the movies to make them profitable. And while I'd prefer Anderson was never allowed to write anything ever again, more power to him for being a success. No point in being rude to people because they do like his stuff.

Hell, there are people out there who play Racing Sim games. To each there own.

I remember being in hysterics taking the piss when Alice is in the plane, all that posing and make up at the end of the world. That had to be deliberately cheesy.

"No point in being rude to people because they do like his stuff" -

                      I'll drink to that.

I, on the other hand, drink to Alice's ass. That's the game.

One thing the RE films do make you realise though - Milla has no tits. I honestly really enjoyed Afterlife, didn't like Extinction cos I thought it was boring and after I just said 'was that it?', but with Afterlife at the cinema me and Gareth had an awesome time, with our 3D glasses on, lolling at cheeseburger Wesker.

Now if you want to see a truly horrific 3D film - Clash of the Titans 3D.

Anderson USED to be a good director (I can't fault the technical skills shown in Event Horizon or Mortal Kombat for example), but it seems the years he took off focusing on writing and producing dulled his skills. Death Race has a suitability to it's fast pace hard cuts that was used but it's hardly a nice beacon of quality film making (and I liked it). On the other hand Afterlife uses some horribly cheap scene changes, weird production concepts, and has really poor pacing compared to his earlier directorial work.

Even if I didn't have a higher vested interest into the RE series in general I probably would have ranked Afterlife as one of the worst technical examples of filmmaking I've seen in recent years (another couple off the top of my head are Clash Of The Titans and the GI Joe movie - the formers too heavily reliance on style and GC over substance, the latter for being a bloated over long mess of a film someone should have re-edited down... after they wrote a better plot).

You also haven't seen a really shit Anderson film until you've seen Solider with Kurt Russell. Now that is a steaming pile. I concur with the earlier comment though that him sticking to his directing is a lot better than him sticking to his writing.

It bothers me primarily because when I think of Resident Evil being a movie, I see nothing but potential for making a really amazing movie. You don't just get zombies, you get these really unique monsters and a beautifully creepy Gothic setting and so many opportunities to create something genuine, something special.

Instead what we get are movies that A: Always rip off the Matrix action sequences B: Have characters that are dumber than a US President(Looking at you W.) C: Have no redeeming value, they are essentially violent multi million dollar live action zombie cartoons with little to no gore.

I don't want this. I want something better, I want to see someone try to make the real thing. Unfortunately, I'm not entirely up to that task myself.

But in the end it still drives me up the wall that a clown with no ideas of his own is able to continue making terrible films that people cant get enough of.

God it makes me want to burn by AA in film.
