I like Event Horizon, and Scream did say ONE of the greatest sci-fi horror movies ever, which is his personal choice. I admit, I like Aliens more myself, but I do think it's a good movie.

I'm not too keen on Event Horizon, it was alright, but for me it find of floundered in the end.

Aliens is great too - my other favourite sci-fi horror movie, I'm not too big a fan of The Thing though. What I like about Event Horizon is the atmosphere and how everything (music, lighting, set etc) just seems to blend together as one, its almost like you are on the ship with them. It's a very believable movie that gives the impression it could happen while Aliens seems more like fantasy in comparison.

The story is awesome too, doesn't reveal everything so there is some mystery to it.. and in the original script you can see there is more to it such as Weir discovering that the ship's computer time is set to seven years before (when it first went missing), and the ship being seen at the end in Proxima Centauri is sort of creepy. Though I believe the entity came from the dimensional gateway itself rather than Proxima, you really need a shield before messing around with gateways/wormholes

Yeah, I'm with the Event Horizon bunch on this one. Quality movie. Filmed at Pinewood Studios too, same as Aliens. I'm in agreement that it's Paul W.S. Anderson's only notable work to date, the Resident Evil films have placed an almost uncleanable smear on his name. But they sell well and bring in a large audience so there's no reason why he would stop making them, which is of course bad news for the hardcore fans of the series.

I thought Death Race was mindless fun, although it really doesn't hold a candle to the original.

              Because it lacks David Carradine.

I loved Event Horizon, thought it was a lot scarier than Aliens or The Thing.

Aliens wasn't suppose to be scary. That movie was a popcorn film. A bunch of military types shooting at walls. Very entertaining, though. But not scary. I don't think that's what it was after.

ALIEN on the other hand, is considered one of the greatest scifi horror flicks of all time. That film beat Event Horizon to a bloody pulp in terms of plot, atmosphere, scares and more importantly, ORIGNALITY.

EH is decent, like I said. But I would be surprised to find it included among AFI's top 100 horror/sci-fi movies of all time.

However, it did make #33 at Fangoria's top 101 scary films of all time.

                  Not too shabby.

Aliens was intended to be an analogy for the Vietnam War, a technologically superior foe being bested by natives.

James Cameron is pretty much the popcorn flick lover's Oliver Stone.

So what your saying is you would rather die by going insane and digging your eyes out than being slowly digested in a mushy pulp inside an alien form and then have your own image recreated so not even the people who love you most in the world could tell the difference between you and then they do the same thing to them. Yeah.

Yeah, Aliens was definitely more military sci-fi than sci-fi horror like the first movie. I don't know what the third one was but it has its own style too..

The trailer for Aliens had the phrase "this time its war" (that was awesome by the way and pumped people up) so yeah, slightly obvious where they were going with it. I prefer Aliens over Alien.. watched it over and over when I was young to the point I still know every line.

Express elevator to hell! Going down!

No, gotta stop. Seriously, don't get me started on quoting Aliens. This thread will end up being fifty pages of quotations.

So this thread has made me watch Event Horizon. Yes, I never watched it before. Although I recall a friend telling me that this was a truly scary film, and now I see what he meant...

Had I watched EH back in the day, I would be totally terrified.

Yes, because surely what I would prefer factors into the films quality and how scary it is. Let's disregard things like the acting, atmosphere, music, tension, lighting, plot. That must not count, my mistake.
