The sand storm sequence is really good. I like it.
So much we've seen yet I still feel all the real trump cards are being held. Fassbender said in a recent interview the 3rd act is absolutely unbelievable.http://www.projectumbrella.net The BIOHAZARD/RESIDENT EVIL Compendium

I just want to re-iterate how much I fucking love that Ridley has taken the AVP movies out of the timeline and blown them beyond reachable existence. The real history behind Weyland is about a million times better than Anderson shamelessly shoehorning Lance Henrikson back into the series, Bishop Weyland indeed. Just a shame the recent AVP game was a direct sequel to it.
I'm interested into seeing how Yutani features within, there's been a couple of nice references including one on the timeline pages, but I wonder whether they'll factor it into the film at all. Perhaps Weyland's stock prices fall to rock bottom after the events of Prometheus, allowing a buyout to happen from Yutani and create the company we know.
Also, we all know of the infamous coccoon sequence, and Ridley's original idea for the alien lifecycle, but has he ever gone on record regarding Cameron's approach and his attitude to the creation of the Alien queen to give the alien a much more traditional lifestyle?Last edited by [STARS]TyranT; 05-20-2012, 06:46 AM.http://www.projectumbrella.net The BIOHAZARD/RESIDENT EVIL Compendium

Totally agree. It's even more of a kick in the balls to Anderson that Scott has essentially taken a lot of Anderson's ideas and made them better. He's basically just replaced the Predators with the Engineers. I think this is all coincidence mind as I doubt Scott has wasted his time watching AVP.
With regards to Cameron I think Scott has respect for what he did in Aliens but I get the impression he is a little bitter about how the Alien itself has evolved over the years. Aliens is an incredible film and the Queen was an excellent addition but at the same time Cameron is responsible for dumbing down the creature from a horrifying bio mechanical monstrosity to essentially just a bug. In fact one could argue we've never had a sequel to the original film in that sense because that particular creature has never been seen again. All the subsequent films have portrayed it as nothing much more than an insect."I've got 100 cows."

Just to put the final nail in the coffin with regards AVP's canonicity to the series here is a direct quote from Ridders himself.
I don't count the last few movies. I know why they did it: to promote the franchise and, hello, it's about money. This is not denigrating any filmmaker, because it is hard enough, God knows. But I really was a little bit upset by how my baby was being misused. We came up with one of the best all-time monsters. Without that monster, I've got a nice, very well-acted, beautifully art-directed movie, but I ain't got that fucking heart-stopping son of a bitch that defies logic.
Of course, it's no secret that Anderson's film also put paid to a Scott directed Alien 5 produced and written by Jim Cameron. Cameron had even started working on the story with another writer before Fox greenlit Anderson's film instead.
I watched Paul Anderson's making of docs on AVP the other night and the audacity of some of the things he comes out with is quite astonsihing. Whilst he seems a likeable guy and he has obvious passion for his work, it is easy to see how he rubs people up the wrong way.
He honestly believes Weyland-Yutani know about the ship in Alien because of what happens in his crummy cross-over film.
He states on the audio commentary about the Predators and that the Preds in P1 and P2 were more inexperienced than the Preds in his film. If his Preds are just teenagers, then the ones in P1 and P2 are just kids apparently.
He doesn't just state these things as assumption, he states them as fact and god it does my head in.Last edited by TheBatMan; 05-24-2012, 06:56 PM."I've got 100 cows."

I remember the day I read Alien 5 got put on indefinate hold an AVP got greenlit, a dark day for cinema.
Nice to see Ridley say that - does he include Alien 3 though would we say? At least to see Ripley go through a trilogy - or is he specific and say that for all intents, the Alien saga ends with Aliens?http://www.projectumbrella.net The BIOHAZARD/RESIDENT EVIL Compendium
