    • It was underwhelming but an okay movie, I can see the flaws on it but I don't understand why everyone was so mad at it. Fassbender was excellent by the way.

          • This film was terrible, both standing alone by itself and even worse when trying to fit it into the Aliens universe.

            • Whenever I see a new film, I try to wash away any ideas I may have about what it could be about.

So I had no expectations about the film before I saw it for the first time. Therefore, I couldn't get mad if it failed to meet any expectations. Which is a great way (for me) to watch a film.

Prometheus... it just wasn't a very interesting film. Aside from enjoying Fassbender nailing the David part, I have absolutely no desire in seeing it again. It fells like it ended where it should've begun.

So maybe the sequel (if it ever happens), will make re-watching it a worthwhile thing. As it is, its not a good watch.

              • Sorry Pikminister, you wont be seeing a sequel. Instead you'll be busy playing Resident Evil 7: Operation Alice and the whole time you'll be screaming 'NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo.........!".

Well if the gameplay was good and actually improved what we got last time, I would scream for joy... even if Alice was the protagonist.

In short: give me great gameplay and I don't care who is the protagonist. I would even play RE7 is Steve was the protag.

Yeah, I said that.. COME AT ME BRAH!

                    • For those interested in the evolution of this film.

This is a script draft from Jon Spaihts entitled 'Alien Engineers' written before Lindelof came on board and the project was still a bona fide Alien prequel.

It's an interesting piece of work to say the least and Sphaihts himself has tweeted to say this is the real deal.

                      • I'm not sure how I feel about the planet being LV426. It's just too obvious, but that's total and categorical confirmation what the black ooze does, albeit without the scarab visual. Kamarov's death is deliciously icky, and comes somewhat from Alan Dean Fosters adaptation of Alien where the Alien tries to fit Parker and Lambert into a pipe they won't fit in.

There's also more horror than Prometheus, the scene with David stroking the face hugger as it 'feels' for Watts is the stuff of real horror, and infinitely more scary than anything in Prometheus.

But other than that, it's basically just a complete fanservice to Alien, and is at times Alien 2.0 with a sprinkling of Aliens in there for good measure. Months past I know Prometheus isn't perfect, but I actually prefer it to this draft. It's less obvious.

                        • Thread necromancy, but relevant.

To preface and disclaim, I think the Twin Perfect folks (while more than usually on the ball with their analysis) are absolute cunt buckets with a sense of humor among the most inane and forced on the internet. It detracts from their videos, and it is absolutely non-comedic (goofy voices on some words and a constant, backfiring attempt to mockingly sound douchey) in its arbitrariness. While I hear criticisms for the content of their videos, I have yet to hear an amen to the tune that they should just stop trying to be funny. It just gnaws at me, and I would love their videos for the great analytical content, if not for their bullshit. Short rant over.

While this relies on a lof of para-textual examples such as viral videos and website material, I think a good deal of it fits and answers the questions (ambiguities?) raised by the film. That said, the presence of these ambiguities probably detract from the movie as an overall text, whether an audience digests it critically or for entertainment purposes.

                          • That video is full of errors. So much putting cart before horse in the logic to reach a conclusion, or using real world symbolism to explain something even though it doesn't make sense in terms of the movie, but this is looked over. No discussion of why the engineers now look human and the established fact that that 'trunk' isn't a suit, or why the one in Alien is huge compared to the ones seen in Prometheus, no discussion on the series history being screwed up.

The fact that they need reference so many things not in the movie at all doesn't stop the movie from being awful either, even if you want to view it a seperate movie from the existing universe.

                            • There's no explanation because there's no tangible answers. If you read Spaihts' script, you get to understand most of what doesn't make sense in the movie. The engineer is very tall, and it connects well with Alien.

But once Lindelof came in, got rid of the eggs, aliens, and introduced religious stuffs, it lost coherence and any kind of logic. The final movie is a badly directed patchwork of many scripts. If you read a few interviews and read spaiht' script, you realize there isn't much mystery behind the movie.

The only thing you really need to know is space jesus 2000 years ago. We killed him, so our creators want to get rid of us. How fucking original is that...

edit: As much as I loathe Lindelof and his 10 years old level of retardedness script, it's still better than the final movie. He emphasizes on some character development completely cut from the movie. The space snake scene for example makes more sense. But Ridley wanted less character development, and even more "mystery". It works for "clever" movies, but clearly not for the pop-corn garbage movie that prometheus is.

                              • I read both scripts and they both were a better movie than the one we got. But that's because I was seeing a better movie in my minds eye. Who knows how much of what was included in both scripts, would end up on the actual screen - well, actually we already have that movie: Prometheus.

However, neither script was very good at all. Both have terrible scenes, dialogue and plots.

And the original script didn't gave us David as we know him from the film. And I happen to like that character in the final film. He's not evil or one that covets 'independence' but simply a robot that follows orders without a trace of malice. Which made it believable that the protagonist would trust him again, at the end of the movie. In the earlier scripts, that didn't made much sense after all the havoc the robot had caused.

The film is really pretty, though. There is something dream-like about it. The atmosphere was quite good. Too bad the writers ruined the mood by placing some of the most stupid characters in that setting.

And the characters were stupid in all 3 scripts. And that's were Prometheus real failings come from. That they made the characters dumb in order to move the plot forward. The writers simply could not come up with a good plot that would explain intelligent characters making the same silly mistakes.

The whole movie suffered because of that.

Ridley needs to hire better writers next time. Not some writers that are friends or pals with some higher-up or big wig in Hollywood. Its because of such writers that we keep getting so much shit at the movies.
