  • I dunno what the equivalent is to the UK, but an R rating for us is the maximum that is allowed in most theaters. If it goes past that to NC-17, most theaters won't take it. For reference, other R-rated movies were the first two Terminator movies, all four Alien movies, all the Resident Evil movies... All sci-fi with an R rating.

    • R- rating is both 15 and 18 for us. A much harder R will obviously net an 18 - like the recent "The Raid". Prometheus was a light 15 in terms of violence and language, so it got it for some tense moments and a stronger approach to the violence (not so much blood everywhere but people in anguish, such as Milburn.

But with a studio system now so unafraid to bank on a R rating, to see Prometheus is now at 160 million and rising, is promising, and to say that most of Ridley's work starts to earn mega money on home releases, it'll easily surpass 200 million at the minute. It's no Avengers granted, but it's making money.

      • It was R-rated only because of the c-section scene.

        • I would of thought the arm break moment would of required a trim to warrante PG-13 also, even if just the moment it showed the exposed bone. Would of thought the punches Fifield gave to the two security guys would of been toned down a little too.

              • Just got back from watching it. Silliest movie I've seen in a looooong time.

For a team of scientists, they sure make a whole lot of dumb decisions.
                Taking their helmets off.
Not wearing surgical masks when operating on an alien head.
Holding their masks on when it's about to explode.
Trying to touch an alien species.
Bringing guns that seemingly have no effect on anything they're fired upon.
Bringing flamethrowers when they have no idea what the planet's atmosphere will be like.
Jumping gaps as the aperture is opening so the space-human's ship can take off (as opposed to running radially, then around the pit)
Running in the same direction as a space ship that's about to fall on them.

Totally have no idea what was up with those camera footage things that people saw. How and or why.
Why is everything so well presevered if it's been dead for 2000years?
What have the snakes been subsisting on this whole time?
                Black goo kills people?
                Snake aliens make snake aliens?
Acid on the face from a snake alien makes super-human zombie?
Black goo can infect humans via sex - Makes a squid-monster.
Squid monster has the tentacles and holes perfectly lined up to infect a space-human? When infected this makes a proto-Giger-alien?

That's all I can run off the top of my head for now. Haven't even started on characters or their motives.

                • The snakes are actually mutated worms. You can see them on the ground when they enter the room the first time. But...

                  1) How could these worms survive 2000 years at a freezing temperature?
                  2) They become some kind of weird alien snakes in like 1 hour because of the space magic goo?

                    • I always thought the worms were brought in from outside, you clearly see a boot stepping on the floor and leaving the worms behind, don't you?
