  • Resident Evil 1.5 Basement Area

I'm having some trouble mapping this area out. Perhaps someone could help me.

How do you get access to the basement? I believe it's from the staircase since you need to restore the power before activating the elevator. However, I believe that this is only the case for Elza. I have not yet understood if Leon is supposed to gain access to it through the manhole by traveling across the second floor and going outside (like Elza's sewer entrance), or if he gets through the staircase.

Here's what I believe that might be the basement area and respective entrances, and a brief explanation why.

    Let's begin with the staircase:

Take a look at the texture and knob of the door. It seems to be the same. Also note that in the second image, there's an emergency(?) exit signal. Now, let's look at the morgue:

Although the placement might seem morbid (next to the staircase?), the door texture matches, and so does the door knob. It seems awkward to have the morgue placed so close to the staircase, especially considering the kennel, firing range and garage are located in the basement. However, the placement doesn't force the officers to go to the morgue. To get to the morgue you take the left after existing the staircase, and travel the corridor to go there. It seems that if you take the right, you get access to the hallway where the power room, armory, firing range and kennel are located.

The power room. Not much to say..

The armory. I can't understand if it's the same hallway as the power room or an entirely new one. However, the lights from above seem to be suspended too, so I think all these locations are placed in the same hallway. From what I understand, the firing range is located next to the armory, so I'll just skip it (I don't believe there's any image of its door in the hallway, but I could be mistaken).

The jail? I'm not sure about this one... I don't think it's the kennel, the door doesn't match its shape, or the firing range's.

Finally, the kennel and the garage. I was under the impression you'd get access to the garage through the kennel, but upon closer inspection, the door knob doesn't match it. The shape is the same, though. Still, it makes me wonder where the second door in the kennel leads to.

I didn't include the service area because I don't know how you gain access to it or where it's located. I believe it's in the basement, but I'm under the impression that it's completely unrelated to every other location found, like off-limits. But I'm probably mistaken. And that's all, I guess.

These two are not from the same hallway. Alzaire pointed out a while back that the brick patterns on the wall do not match. They are from separate hallways. The door in the second one is the door to the armory. Behind her, at the turn, should be the door to the firing range. There's even a fire hydrant thing behind Elza which they seem to love placing near doors located at hallways ends (such as the power room door).

These two however, have the same wall pattern as the one in the second pic with Elza. It is very likely they are from the same hallway. They just look different thanks to the lighting and the image/color distortion in the Elza pic.

We already know the morgue is at the end of the hallway just behind Leon in the second pic. You can see this in the "goromacida video" Curator posted on Youtube.

This is a stairway door. Same door type as the one in the second pic. Has the exact same fire exit sign next to it. Layout-wise, the hallway in the first pic is actually very similar to the B1 hallways in retail. Although we don't know how the hallway ends in the 1.5 version.

    Spoiler:

You enter the garage through the service bay. The big shutter door in the second pic is just off-camera in the first pic. You can see it in other pics of the garage though.

What we know has been mapped out, mostly. We don't have enough information to get a complete map out of the basement. There was a revival of this discussion in the thread with the new 1.5 images here. Regarding the garage, you DO get there via the vehicle service area.

Thanks for the corrections. I think the basement is quite a mess. Some of the doors have the correct door knob, but others, like the garage, are completely wrong, making it a nightmare to map out the area based on the texture, shape and knob of the door. I also don't understand where some places lead you to.

For example, in the picture with the fire exit signal, and which I presumed that was the morgue, which place is that suppose to lead to? It's not the morgue. It could be the kennel, but the door knob doesn't match. Perhaps the service area that gets access to the garage? I suppose that could be right, but it seems strange that it would be placed to the left of the RPD entrance, if I'm not mistaken.. Maybe the jail?

Also, are we sure that the basement is only comprised by the Morgue, Power Room, Armory, Firing Range, Kennel, Jail and Service Area (I'm excluding the garage because you gain access to it through the Service Area)? Where's the door from the kennel supposed to lead you then? Also, where does this picture fit in?

I'll be studying this a little bit more before moving on the 2nd and 3rd Floor. Still, it's very confusing. If we had at least an official map, this would be far easier

I wouldn't focus on the door knobs too much. I believe the door that leads to the garage outside the service bay is flipped around. As well, the shutter doesn't match up 100% either. Small things like these might make mapping the basement using just the door knobs, impossible. There are others that know more than me, but that's just what I know regarding at least one of the doors.

You are talking about this, I presume? It can either be the entrance to the prison, kennel, or a doorway leading to another unseen area.

This other "door" inside the kennel, the one on the right, seems more like a small sliding door storage shed rather than an actual door.

This is also part of the kennel. The large pipe and the sink, along with the mop, bucket and broom clustered together in the back are reused in the retail version kennel.

And as doriantoki has already said, don't focus on the orientation of the doorknobs since the CG artists could have screwed them up. The door model/type being used should be reliable though.

That had confused me at first, but I think I have come to believe your theory; it certainly looks like a non-functional sliding door to me, something just meant to ornament the background. Hopefully this simplifies things?

I guess you can't wait for me to update my maps? I am updating the 1st,2nd 3rd, and B1 map. It takes time to make it look nice. I am in the process of enhancing images to put on the maps. I know a lot of fans have very little patience, but I am working as fast as I can and I am not getting paid for my time or effort. I just do this to please the fans here and myself. And there are some areas of the maps that are guess work. Sorry but with no new images or videos to help me out, I have to figure it out on my own.

I'm sure deep down most of us, including me, would rather you take your time and make the final product shine. I know firsthand that it's hard to be patient for these things, but I am truly grateful that people like you and several others are expending your own time, energy, and resources to do this for us. I'm assuming that you have access to all images, video, and documents known to the community (certainly everything that I've managed to amass at least), so there's no reason why your maps wouldn't be the best available. As for guesswork, obviously you should use your own discretion, but maybe ensure that there are footnotes denoting exactly which portions of the map are your own guesswork for those who are unfamiliar.

And again, if you need any translation help, you need only ask. Personally, I'm still trying to decipher the text of those screenshots with the Japanese font-errors, as well as the Inflames images in which the Bioflames watermark is blocking parts of the text (which is barely legible anyway due to the low quality of the image).

I've been following your maps since you first started, so I know these latest ones will be the best.

I know your intentions are good, but please, understand that you're not the only one working on a BioHazard 1.5 project. I recently released a batch of screenshots (among other things) that had some mistakes, and that I'm currently trying to correct. Besides, this topic might be helpful if you come across the same doubts as I did, or if further clarification shows up on some areas. Not to mention that it might enlighten fans who are unfamiliar with the layout of the game. Think of it as a synergism

EDIT: Also, I noticed in the other topic you were requesting Inflames screenshots. Take a look at my topic and see if you find something new in the screenshots section. I'm pretty sure the 200 cellphone pictures were never fully released. I have roughly 100, and I excluded a few because they were either repetitions, or you could find them in higher quality from magazine scans or video footage. There's probably one or two dozen pictures that were never released to the public because they contained information that no one but Inflames was aware of. If I had to guess, it's probably because he wanted to make sure it was a legit copy if he ever came across another beta build.

Alright, moving on. I've collected the information from this topic, so let me show you what I believe to be the basement layout.

                      Let's begin with the morgue.

Here's the jail. A foot note: I don't think there's a door connecting to the jail section. The background texture matches the one of the hallway, and if you pay close attention to farthest wall of the second picture, you can spot what seems to be a T-section of the hallway. I believe there's not a physical door separating the jail section from the first hallway of the basement - they are connected.

Moving on to the armory and firing range. I believe the layout is similar to the the previous hallway. When you get to the T-section, if you turn to the left (from where Leon presumably comes from), you have the armory in the corridor and the firing range in a similar position to the power room.

And finally, the service bay and the garage. I think if you turn to the right, you'll get access to the service area, which eventually leads you to the garage and sewer.

As I previously said, there's a reason why I think the kennel is located in that position. I think it has something to due with the proximity to the firing range. Aren't canines suppose to get to the firing range through some vents? It would make sense that the dogs got there from the kennel. Also, I drew the entrance of the RPD because I believe that much like in the retail version, the garage is meant to be placed in the back of the RPD. Thus, it makes sense for it to be where I drew it. But of course, this is merely an assumption.

EDIT: *sigh* I just realized my first mistake in the map. The armory is proceeded by a junction. I have no idea how to fit it...
