  • Is the series dead, now that the reviews hated RE6 for being too action?

Resident Evil 6 has gotten negative revews from fans and critics alike. They're saying that RE6 is like a Michael Bay Film movie! I hope the series doesn't end up like the stupid retarted Dino Crisis 3...

It's not doing well. But Capcom like as not do not give a shit - RE5 got the same panning, but sold. As long as RE6 sells too then the reviews mean diddly, because Capcom's made the money.

I think part of the issue is Capcom can't get out of Raccoon City - as I understand it, and I haven't played the game or read a synopsis so I could be horribly wrong, even RE6 has a big part of it's story about the Raccoon City outbreak. Something about covering up what really happened some more? Capcom seems to want to go back to the place as often as possible, but they really need to move on and let it go...especially if it means going, 'Oh, and by the way this guy has been doing this behind the scenes but no one knew' again. They seem to think retroactively dumping a villain into the main plot means we're actually going to care more about him, and we don't. If they want a villain to be interesting they're gonna have to not kill them in the same game they introduce them.

Hopefully, the fact that Leon's more horror based campaign seems to be the most popular, generally, will give Capcom a hint. But don't be shocked to see ORC2 on the horizon.

it depends of what do you expect of the title Resident Evil. if u expect top notch graphics, horror, artistic overall looking, super emotive soundtrack and a disturbing "calm" style, then its not only dead, its dead, cremated, sealed with concrete and buried in the deepest ground under the ocean.

if you expect RE as an action game, a good 3rd person shooter, the series still walking to improve the gameplay to someday reach the most traditional 3rd person games. maybe it will be good as, for an example that i played a lot, Sniper Elite V2.

since RE is not horror, but its not a refined action game, i can play it, but i do not accept afford the full price. not worth it. great jewels like Alan wake drop to 5 USD in some promotions on steam. why should i pay 50 usd for an action game with broken gameplay?

Resident Evil died 8 years ago, when RE4 was released.

They can create the most horrible plot, gameplay and characters of all time.
That they will not care, as long as they got bags of money in their hands.

Face it. No horror game is gonna get released after RE4.
Revelations is a rarity, but most of them will be about action.

The way Capcom looked at it, is that the action route made sense for RE6, because RE5 sold so well. But what they don't realize, is that just because RE5 sold well, doesn't mean that fans were pleased with it. For example, RE5 could have sold well because a lot of people liked RE4, and even the people who didn't care for RE4, were hoping that RE5 would be a little bit better. But most of the feedback for RE5 was negative. Capcom looks at the numbers, as says action route makes sense because 5 sold well. But just because 5 sold well, doesn't mean that fans liked it. In other words, just because 5 sold well, doesn't mean that 6 will.

So, I'm looking forward to seeing the sales numbers of RE6 in a month from now. I personally hope that the sales for RE6 are horrible. They need to stop with this action crap.

I wonder how RE 4-6 would play in old PS1 RE engine (with fixed camera angles and with the old RE sensibilities).

And here we go again ...

No. Resident Evil is not dead.

Going by online orders, the amount of people I see playing Resident Evil 6 and how I'm currently sold out at my shop ... I'd say it's very much alive and doing pretty well. Despite mixed reviews. 4.5 million units shipped is also pretty darned solid and something tells me those units wont be collecting dust anywhere and more are on the way.

What you however can expect is that depending on whether or not Capcom harvest any user-based gameplay data (which they totally should be doing) and read reviews + feedback, they'll take all of this to heart and spend some more time on the drawing board with their next mainline Resident Evil --- but the most important thing for now, is to wait for all the hatemongers to shut up with their shouting and screaming and see what happens when perfectly normal people get their hands on the game and starts talking about it.

I hoped that it would flop, though.

The plot point regarding Raccoon City, which is really not a plot about the city but a plot point focusing on the U.S. government's collusion with Umbrella, has been hanging since BH3. They've just decided to close it so they can move on entirely. Adding a character retroactively was done to explain those elements of the plot, just like Sergei in Umbrella Chronicles. It was probably the only part of the story that was genuinely good and should have been the main focus, as it was being built up for over a decade.

Simmons was awesome, but like the rest of the game he was liquid shit thanks to the Spoiler:

Couldn't have said it any better. A lot of people are more than happy to just go along with the crowd to shit on the game, mostly the people who don't like the more action-y style of the series.

I've seen someone saying that after Gamespot's note it'll be hard to convince them to buy the game, but apparently they didn't need a lot of convincing to not buy it, meaning they wither wanted to jump on the bandwagon of hate or just wanted a reason.

The series is alive and well for new fans (RE4 onward), but long since dead and buried for the original fan-base. Capcom does not care because money is money, no matter whose pocket it comes from.

Well, I consider myself an old-school fan, as I've got into Resident Evil with RE2, but I like 4,5 and 6 too... And there's people who also like the movies... and so on.

But I think we all can agree on Capcom being a money-hungry monster corporation... And as long they are kept feed, they won't change their ways or how they do games.

I think RE6 has been a important part of the series in terms of it's future, Capcom now need to decide is it worth keeping as much action in the series? or will Leon's campaign in RE6 and the size of the game lacking in extreme quality push them to just say "Yea know what? we can't risk these mixed reviews for RE7, people want that blend of horror and action that RE4 had".

Capcom can still do a good mixture of the both, Revelations only came out earlier this year and was a damn fine entry in the series.
