  • Resident Evil: The [TV] Series fanedit going back up on YouTube

Since we all share some level of disappointment in RE6, I thought this would be a good time to remind us of the glory days of Resident Evil, and what it USED to be. To that end I'm reposting my 2011 fanedit production, RESIDENT EVIL: THE SERIES, on YouTube in its entirety. All three season's worth of episodes covering everything from RE0 to RE5, and most everything in between. Here's my stock description from YouTube:

    ----------

How would Resident Evil have looked as a TV series? That's the intriguing premise behind this fanedit production. It takes almost all of the videogames and videos available to date [2011 - ed], gameplay captures and the best of efforts by other faneditors (many of them here on YouTube), and combines them all together into a three-season saga that tells the Resident Evil story from start to finish. It's meant for people who have never played the games (and never will), or for those who wanted the "real" story rather than what we've been given in the feature films.

There will be some obvious goofs and gaffes when you watch this - especially if you've played the games before. Impossible map routes, weapons abruptly switching or disappearing for no reasons, character voices changing in mid-episode, etc. This is forced upon us by the different sources. Please keep in mind that this is a "what-if" - a "rough cut," if you will, of how a REAL Resident Evil TV series would look like. We hope you enjoy it, and hope you will share it with your friends.

Full summaries of all three seasons' worth of episodes, as well as extensive production notes, can be downloaded here:

    ----------

And here's a link to Part 1 of the first episode of the series, "Murder on the Ecliptic Express:"
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

    ----------

Let me warn you in advance that this is a TV edit aimed at the average TV viewer, who knows next to nothing about RE save what he or she might have learned from those crappy feature films. I stick mainly to the story, skip a lot of the boring bits (puzzles, excessive action/battles). I do take the occasional dramatic license, but only for the sake of my target audience - the average TV viewer. If you're looking for something along these lines but geared more for the hardcore RE fan, you might want to check out the RE Chronicles Series by HCloudXIII, - which you can also find on YouTube.

It's going to take me a while to reup everything, so please bear with me. Thanks.

I really love the way these are edited. Thanks for taking the time out to do these!

I know a bit off topic but...

I've always wondered how RE would do with live-action actors in a tv series after seeing the success of The Walking Dead; I'd definitely watch it if it were done right. Then, we could have a chance at RE being good again (with Alice never existing) with real actors! I'm probably just grasping at straws now so I'll shut up.

Well, I can't fill THAT wish ... but I can give you more episodes to watch.

Here's the back half of Season 2 - which contains both the worst (Gun Survivor) and best (Code: Veronica) stories in the whole of the RE Classic Saga - in my opinion and that of many others [I'm talking strictly the story here, not the source game as a whole - again, IMHO, RE2 gets that prize by a nose]. This batch of episodes also marks the end of the Classic Saga; i.e., everything connected to Raccoon City, the events leading up to the outbreak, and its immediate aftermath. BTW, all of the Classic Saga stories take place in 1998.

(Season 3 trailer at end of Part 2)

The Code: Veronica story arc points in the direction where RETV is heading next - and in the lives of our characters to come ... but you'll just have to enjoy the trailer and wait until Season 3 gets reposted for that. Until then!

Backstory for Season 3 (reversioned and simplified a bit)

                    Coming soon ...

                    -----X-----X-----X-----X-----

"The world was never the same after Raccoon City ...."

Thanks to the illegal bioweapons research of the Umbrella corporation, the word "bioterrorism" has entered the lexicon of each and every nation. A thriving black market trade has sprang up for Umbrella BOW technology, and everyone - from rogue militias and terrorist groups all the way down to the stereotypical lone mad scientist on the lam - wants a piece of the action. Umbrella was just the start - others would pick up where they left off and improve/refine BOWs from there. No place is safe ... no nation is safe ... because you never know where or how the next outbreak will happen, or who is behind it, or in what form it will be THIS time.

Given this rapidly growing global crisis, the nations of the world banded together to fight it. Almost every nation formed its own anti-bioterrorism unit. Prominent among these was STRATCOM of the United States - which eventually evolved into the FBC. The United States, working in conjunction with the United Nations, also helped to form an international anti-BOW agency - the BSAA - to help unify these various groups and lead the fight against global bioterrorism.

Among the BSAA's very first recruits were Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine - two of the most famous survivors from the Raccoon City outbreak of 1998. They are considered by many as among the greatest of the world's anti-bioterrorism fighters, and their presence is gladly welcomed in whatever worldwide BSAA mission of which they are part. Another Raccoon City survivor who is prominent in this effort is Leon Kennedy - who has since overcome his rather rough start with STRATCOM and has now risen to become one of its chief agents. His knowledge and experience in the anti-BOW fight is well respected by the White House - both its current occupant and those vying for it in the elections soon to come.

While Claire Redfield (younger sister of Chris) has bowed out of the global bioterrorism fight for personal reasons, others have risen to take her place. Among the first was Ark Thompson, a good friend of Leon's at STRATCOM, who was instrumental in destroying Umbrella's original Tyrant production facility on Sheena Island back in 1998. Another such STRATCOM friend of Leon's is Bruce McGivern, a free-wheeling and wisecracking agent whose apparent youth belies years of fighting regular terrorism across the globe. Other experienced fighters from other quarters and agencies are also drawn in - such as Jack Krauser of the U.S. Army Special Operations Command (SOC), who is legend among his peers for fighting like "a one-man virtual army." There are the new recruits in the various worldwide chapters of the BSAA - such as Josh Stone and Sheva Alomar in Africa, a continent whose perennial bush wars are a perfect place for bioterrorism to run rampant. There are many not directly connected with such organizations who are nevertheless drawn into the fight - such as former Madrid policeman Luis Sera, who gets involved in a rather unique angle of this in southern Spain. And so on, and so on - everywhere, across the globe, as the threat of bioterrorism spreads, a new generation of fighters rise to join the ranks of the old to meet the challenge.

The one thing that ties all of this together is, of course, Umbrella and the horror it wrought with its BOWs. There are those who fear (and rightly) that a new organzation is being built to take its place. Those fears are not unfounded, for one man is working for that very goal. His name is Albert Wesker, and he is number one on the BSAA Most Wanted List. He too is a Raccoon City survivor - not to mention a former top Umbrella employee - but turned renegade early on and is now one of the chief leaders behind the global bioterrorism threat. Other former Umbrella employees who are in the thick of it include Sergei Vladimir, former head of the Umbrella Security Service (USS) - and Morpheus D. Duvall, former manager of Umbrella's Benthic Island "disposal" facility. There is also the mysterious Ada Wong, mercenary at large, long thought to be dead but who has since turned back up in the employ of Albert Wesker, of all people. How or why she managed to get on the wrong side of the fight is a mystery - or, perhaps, she is playing both sides of the street again, like she did in the days leading up to the Raccoon City incident. All of the knowledge and resources of the now-broken Umbrella corporation are in the hands of these people - not to mention a rising tide of rogue nations, personal militias, religious cults, fanatical terrorists, crime cartels, overzealous patriots, and anyone else who sees in bioterrorism a means to meet their own nefarious ends.

"The world was never the same after Raccoon City, and we can never go back. All we can do is go forward, and live our lives as best we can."
                    (Claire Redfield)

This is the environment in which the New Saga stories of Resident Evil: The TV Series begins ....

Some initial drafting, nothing more. It would probably be in a new or spinoff series, if I did do anything. I don't want to do anything major while RE6 is still in its initial market cycle. Let Capcom make their money from it first.

Well folks, here's the third and final season of RETV ...

                          -----------

Episode 1 - "Dark Legacy" (New Saga pilot)
                          Part 1 - http://youtu.be/wQkScY7dIDA
                          Part 2 - http://youtu.be/_UGswVRKcsU

NOTE - I had to cut Chris and Jill's fight with TALOS (about 2 minutes) due to YouTube runtime restructions. The pilot episode is a little longer than the others; hence the need for the cut. It happens after Wesker defeats Sergei and while he is downloading the Red Queen's data (during the fade to black and back).

Episode 2 - "River of Death"
                          Part 1 - http://youtu.be/_LI7ciFcn3M

That's all, folks. The stage is now set for where Capcom has since taken the RE franchise, with what I'm beginning to call the Neo-Umbrella Saga (Revelations, RE6, the CG feature films, et al). Viewing is encouraged, questions and comments are welcome.

If any fellow fans want to remake RETV in high-def (HD), be my guest. All I ask is that you keep it exactly the way I edited it. I had my reasons for everything I did, and you can find most of those in the production notes. Also, please keep the main titles and end credit sequence for each episode, too. The people who originally did all this deserve as much credit as do you for your HD remake - if not more. Fair enough?

Moderator, you can pin up this thread wherever you want. Stick a fork in it, because I'm done! Be seeing you. (REM)

STRATCOM is an actual U.S. agency and was never actually related to bioterrorism. It just had an anti-Umbrella task force for taking out Umbrella elements when the company began conducting its activities underground. The FBC was established by the US, but the BSAA wasn't established by anyone in particular: it was a private NGO and it had a checkered relationship with America, who preferred to do things on their own. Leon never worked for STRATCOM. He worked for a secret military intelligence agency. Ark was a private detective. Sergei was not head of the USS. He helped establish the UBCS, but it's unknown whether he led it. He did however lead Umbrella's secret surveillance agents.

Just thought I'd point those out since it looks like you're otherwise trying to stick as close to the series storyline as possible.

Here's a little early Christmas 2012 present for everyone - an all-new episode of RETV!

New Season One episode - "Winner Take All" (adapted from RE:ORC)
                              Part 1 - http://youtu.be/Yqhzt5JfUnw
                              Part 2 - http://youtu.be/R8HVI0oMnbo

I made this to fill the last major gaping plot hole in Season 1 - namely, the story behind the bodies of the Army SOC personnel that Jill finds during her escape from Raccoon City in RE3. Yes, I know - OPERATION RACCOON CITY (ORC) has lots of issues, and it wasn't exactly, uhmm, "designed?" to fit with the rest of the RE Classic Saga stories, but I found a way to make it do what I wanted it to do. There's nothing else available to tell that particular story, though, and that was one I and the rest of the team had always wanted to do back then. It won't work for "real canon" - for those of you who insist on such things - but hopefully it will work within the somewhat unique canon of RETV. Anyhow, I hope you enjoy it. The last piece of the puzzle is in place.

The old Season One episode list posting will be updated to put this new episode in its proper place. I'm going on vacation for the holdays, so Merry Christmas everyone!
