Alone in The Dark : The New Nightmare
    Fear Effect
    Fear Effect 2
    Deep Fear
    Parasite Eve
    Parasite Eve 2

I like these ones specifically. I own Galerians but it isn't a good game. Countdown Vampires is a decent game. The graphics resemble 1.5 a lot IMO.

      Koudelka
      Parasite Eve
      Parasite Eve II

But they are very different kind of games compared to Resident Evil, Koudelka is a tactical RPG, Parasite Eve is a turn based RPG and Parasite Eve II is an action RPG, just forget about Galerians, it's awful.

Parasite Eves are great, the first one focusing on being a RPG, and the second one being closer to a resident evil.

Alone in the Dark trilogy is a classic, everyone should play it.

Both Fear Effect are good, but the gameplay is really bad. Plenty of time we die because of bad controls.

im playing alone in the darkness on pc, bought from GOG by 4$.

its a good game, in fact, the mechanics is as good as RE2/3. dunno if this feature is pc only, but theres real time light from the flashlight.

its the closest we can get from RE3.5.

unfortunately, this game is not so cool as RE.

Parasite Eve 2 is great, Fear Effect 1 and 2 are pretty good as well. They're all RE style games with their own little twists, Fear Effect games are a little sloppier in execution but still fun to play. I love any game with prerendered backgrounds, Fear Effect is heavily animated and looks really good at times. Parasite Eve 1 is also pretty good but is a sort of tactical RPG more like Vagrant Story than an action game like RE, still worth playing before Parasite Eve 2.

I've played a little bit of Alone in the Dark it seemed alright, never played much of it though might have to give it a try some time. Deep Fear is on the Saturn, it looks really cheesy but could be fun.

You should like the first 2 Alone in the Dark. I haven't played them, but I watched friends playing them and it's basically RE1 and RE2 4 years earlier.

In my opinion, there's only one good game on your list (OK, I've never heard of "Countdown Vampires", but with that title it can't be good...), and that's Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare. It's not only good, but VERY good. It's probably the closest you'll get to old-school Resident Evil without playing Resident Evil. Great backgrounds and atmosphere, good story though a bit stupid at times, somewhat lacking in enemy design.

(The earlier and later Alone in the Dark games are absolute horseshit.)

This game looks great! Think I'm going to have to pick it up.

Just have some patience with the controls in the beginning. It does control exactly like RE, but it's not as well programmed. You'll notice it in your first fights. Also play as Carnby first, as his scenario gives a proper build-up of the story. In Aline's scenario you'll pick up files and info in a messy order, but it does offer new locations and additional details to the plot.

Oh, and the game actually has puzzles, something Resident Evil never had. Replace gold emblem with wood emblem? Puzzle?

The PE games are a personal favorite of mine with excellent stories and gameplay. PE2 as a matter of fact was directed and written by Kenichi Iwao, the writer/planner of BH1, and many BH1/BH2 staff were part of its development team.

Deep Fear is a BIO-clone and its writer later worked with Tokuro Fujiwara (the real creator of BIOHAZARD, Mikami's boss and mentor) on creating Extermination, which is another pretty good game that Mikami took inspiration from for BH4.

Not played Galerians. Koudelka or Countdown Vampires, but a classic RE fan should find enjoyment out of all the others.

Countdown Vampires and Martian Gothic are two games that follow the RE formulea from almost every detail. Countdown Vampires is hard and the 'vampires' run at you. Surprised there was no lawsuit as it is a blatant rip off.

Martian Gothic has more originality and is funner (imo) than Countdown Vampires, based in Space you can switch between three characters (think RE0 style) and you have to explore a ship where the entire crew have turned into zombies. The three characters cannot be near each other as they will transform into some mega-zombie (this is explained but ICR how), so some interesting gameplay mechanics.

Parasite Eve are fantastic games, the 3rd Birthday was really good as well but completely different from PE. Parasite Eve games are really good RPG's and they have a creepy feeling about them.

Koudelka is a fun RPG. Never played Galerians but I wanted to.

Yeah I'd suggest you at least give these games a go, it's worth it to see if you'll like them.

Of the games listed, I can only speak for 4 of them. Deep Fear, Koudelka, Parasite Eve and Parasite Eve II.

Deep Fear, as mentioned, is a BioHazard clone. The creations are a product of extra-terrestrial bacteria but its storyline design is similar. The gameplay is a little bit more rigid than BioHazard's and less fluid in execution, but it's still a worthy play if you enjoy the style. Unfortunately, the game does not have a lot of replay value since no secrets to unlock exist. The best way to describe Deep Fear is as an arcade style BioHazard.

Koudelka is a turn-based RPG. It's setting and atmosphere is far more macabre and morbid than the BioHazard series. I strongly recommend it if you enjoy the Silent Hill series. It's less psychological, but the feeling of uneasy, unsettling and disturbance is on the same level. Don't expect the gameplay to be formidable, though. Also, if you do happen to like this title, I recommend you play its sequel, Shadow Hearts.

Parasite Eve is a "Final Fantasy meets BioHazard" Survival Horror, with an heavenly scientific storyline that you'll appreciate if you like biology. There's not a lot that can be said about this game. You just have to play it to see why it's so adored by Survival Horror fans. Off the games I've listed, it's, without a doubt, the best of them all. If you like RPGs and Horror, then it's a must play. And it has plenty of replay value, it can last for as long as 30 hours until everything is cleared.

Parasite Eve II is a BioHazard clone with RPG elements. It's not a bad attempt, but it falls short on its predecessor. However, it's far more challenging than anything that the BioHazard series has to offer (if you try its additional modes), so if you're looking for a difficult game (and if that's why you partly love the BioHazard series) then you'll fall in love with it.

Is Extermination a spiritual successor of Deep Fear?

Written by the same writer with a similar plot (extraterrestrial bacteria) in a different setting (Antarctic outpost rather than a submarine). It nails the Antarctic setting a lot better than CODE:Veronica attempted to.
