And even if he came up with the premise it's a little contrived to call him the creator. It's like saying that Kojima made Lords Of Shadow because he gave some tips to Mercury Steam.

The following is a translation of a March 3rd, 2009 blog post by Fuunoshin, retrieved from the site NESGBGG. The post includes excerpts from interviews with various game developers, with the majority of excerpts originating from an interview with Tokuro Fujiwara, the creator of series such as Resident Evil. It appeared in Vol. 12 of […]
So he ordered for its creation, devised the setting and basic gameplay system, made the most critical decisions in the game's design, but is still not the creator? He didn't offer advice. He developed it. Mikami on the other hand did very little, and I've yet to see any evidence to the contrary. He seems to have spent more time blaming others when criticized rather than actually over-seeing things.
All of Mikami's director credits are virtually meaningless as he didn't actually do much with them. Unlike the likes of Hideo Kojima, he was not very involved. Kojima devises the entire game plan and writes the scenario. Mikami does neither. The plan of BIO1 was handled by Kenichi Iwao, Hideki Kamiya, Hiroki Katoh and several others. The plan of Dino Crisis was handled by Shu Takumi, Hiroyuki Kobayashi and others. Rebirth? Hiroshi Shibata, Nishikawa and others.

Do you think the gameplay design of BioHazard 4 FOG/HOOKMAN would be reminiscent of BioHazard Rebirth, only with a new camera?

Probably. Kawamura was also a planner on Fog/Hookman and it's often hard to tell whose influence is who's without being told exactly what they did, although Kawamura seemed to focus more on how to design the horror rather than the game itself, which was probably Shibata's territory.
I still find Mikami's pretentious sunglasses appearance at E3 amusing, proclaiming that development of Fog/Hookman was going smoothly even though it was anything but. The game ran into problems quite quickly and very little of it was actually made even though they had the basic gameplay design.PROJECT Umbrella - The BIOHAZARD/RESIDENT EVIL Compendium

You seem to know a lot about the game's development. I'd like to ask you something.
Which one of them do you think that was more completed before being scrapped? BioHazard 4 Devil May Cry Vers. or Fog/Hookman?

So the power of Lord's Spencer G transformation was the equivalent to the Underworld's ruler? Fucking badass.
How much of BioHazard 4 FOG/HOOKMAN do you think was recycled in the final product?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Blue Stinger on the Dreamcast yet, and "inb4" someone says because the game is total shyte, I'll say my piece.
Blue Stinger is not a particularly well made game from a technical stand point, the textures are bland, the 3D models are quite horrible for even Dreamcast standards at the time, and the animations are a tad shoddy at best. Besides all that though, the cheesy dialogue, the bizarre otherworldly story, the AMAZING musical score (seriously still one of the best musical scores I've ever heard in a game to this day), and the gameplay that is just downright fun! At the end of the day, gameplay is really all that matters.
If you can break through gaming barriers set up by the usual standards, you just might be able to see Blue Stinger as I do, a bloody gem of a game and still one of my personal favourites that only grows on me as I get older.
The original Japanese version has fixed camera angles that pan depending where the player moves, just like CODE: Veronica. So if you want something similar to Resident Evil, go with that. I personally prefer the American/European version though, they opted to change the camera to an over the shoulder style which really just works better for this game considering the controls are not 'tanked' like the original RE's.

Countdown vampires was so ugly, I couldn't play much. What was fun was the hidden elimination game on disc 2, or something. It's kind of like the 4th survivor game.

I know you asked about old school games, but another game to look at is Extermination for the PS2. It's a really old game and not many people know about it, it's a survival horror game but is a 3rd person shooter on the PS2 like RE4 years before Resident Evil is what it is today. It doesn't hold up as well as some other games but it's quite under rated and was a great survival horror game back in the day. It's like a mixture of The Thing and modern day Resident Evil, it's worth checking out.Last edited by Guest; 12-30-2012, 10:45 PM.
