Capom wont remake RE2 for the same reason Square won't remake FF7, and thats because its their last card to play in the game.

Until both series are fucked up beyond repair, they wont do a remake, because a remake of either of these titles is something they hanging onto for that moment when they're in real financial trouble(though the FF series got fucked hard with 13s shitty stories, characters, IMO).

RE2 is a life preserver for Capcom, and its one of the few they still have. When they end up using it, you know they're in deep shit and desperate.

Until then expect a lot of research and development time to go into RE7, which will be a louder, noisier game with less story and more quick time events :/

^ FFXIII was one of the best-selling Final Fantasy games to date. Hence not one, but two sequels.

And really, I don't understand the story hate. The gameplay hate I can get, it's not for everyone (I didn't mind it though, I liked it), but the story is pretty good if you ask me. It's an interesting spin on the whole good guys save the world routine (as in, it's more of a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario).

I agree though, RE2 and FFVII remakes are the last resort ass-saves Capcom and Square-Enix have. And the longer they aren't made, the more time people will fondly remember them so that when/if the time comes, people will flood to buy the remakes.

The best way to do it imo, or the best way I'd like to see it done, would be to port it to current gen consoles and do an HD Revival on XBLA/PSN like they have with so many other games. Port the game and replace the old backgrounds with HD backgrounds as well as upgrading the models and textures to HD. Keep everything else about the engine the same so it plays true to the original, perhaps upgrade things like the lighting engine as well to add to the atmosphere. But what's important is that RE2 retains the feel and quality of the original and not to be butchered by an attempt at recoding everything from scratch. It would be a lot of work and I don't even know if Capcom have the source code to work with any more, but I think HD Revival projects like this can really work sometimes when done right. Another option would be to work with REmake's engine and start again, and that would be nice also, but this is just anther way I'd like to see it done just for the sake of retaining the feel of the original.

This is the best thing I've read in a while. But I agree. REmake 2 is at least 10 years overdue. I want it exactly like REmake, graphics, controls etc. But I think I need to come to terms with the fact that, like aforementioned, it was due a decade ago and isn't going to happen that way, if at all.

If Capcom were to create a RE2 Remake, they would make sure it's released on most consoles. Even if they released it exclusively for the Wii-U, they would eventually port it to every other console. Much like they've recently announced with Revelations.

IF a remake was to ever be done for Resident Evil 2, they would need to have Hideki Kamiya and Shinji Mikami onboard, if not, then they can absolutely forget (or even to consider) it!

Kamiya said on his twitter he hates horror games and wishes to work on them no more, and according to the Bot, Shinji did nothing. RE2Make with these two? It'll never happen.

That may be true yes, however you wouldnt want anyone else besides the creator to touch their work wouldnt you? I mean, he can be ask to be brought back ONLY for this one game as he is the one who knows it best. Even as a creative consultant (along with Shinji Mikami) to overlook the project very much as it was done with RE:Make. I believe that this is the only way to get the best results for a remake because (not only it was their game) it was also these two people who made the Resident Evil franchise what it is!

Tell that to a Star Wars fan.

Mikami had very little to do with the series in terms of creativity. Having him on-board would mean absolutely nothing, and he wasn't a fan of BH2's style of horror. He had almost nothing to do with making the series what it is aside from making the decisions that led to its derogatory impression in the industry as some sort of cheese-flick.

Kamiya wants to make new games, not revise old ones.

I'd rather they remake Gun Survivor than any of the main titles.
