The word "reboot" sounds ridiculous for me, what means reboot? Throw anything to trash and start from zero?, is this what RE need? I don`t think so, Capcom need to take RE and fix all the things that are wrong and doesn`t work to the franchise. There are hundreds of fucking shooters and RE doesn`t need to be one of them, because RE didn`t born as a shooter.
This is a discussion that never ends, the big problem is that RE needs something and Capcom needs something very different, and because of that we can`t have a RE like we want, and probably we won`t get it anymore.
RE needs to recover its identity, bring back the Survival adventure experience. Replace Chris, Leon and the super agents from allways with more human and vulnerable characters that don`t know what they are facing and can feel fear. Put a character trying to survive in a crazy place ALONE, having a partner all the time ruines all possible horror experience, leave coop and multiplayer for minigames, not for the main adventure, not all the time at least.
Put creative and corageous minds capable of design new and fresh ideas instead of copying the shooter fashions. Design an adventure in wich we have to think what to do, how to do, and where to go, avoid ridiculous GPSs and command instructions all the time to telling us ALL we have to do, do developers think that we are idiots?, that we can`t think and progress in the game by ourselves? Put more laberynthic places that bring us different possible routes totake, that forces us to go all the way back and look for another way when we reach a locked door, that give us the need from EXPLORE and investigate, and let us find the way instead of only following a linear path with a point marked on the map telling us "You idiot, go here now" or "you idiot, go for that key in that room now".
Put dangerous enemies, that represent a threat even individually, that we don`t want to take the risk of getting close to them, enemies that don`t stop by feeling pain from a bullet in their arms, that can`t be defeated by melee atacks, that don`t drop ammo, money, skill points or healing items like piñatas, that don`t give us NOTHING for kill them, if this is a survival experience, we kill for SURVIVE, not for receive gifts or experience from the enemies we kill like in an RPG. Enemies that when we meet them we have to evaluate ¿What should I do, kill or run?. Put more limited weapons and ammo, remove excesive weapons like grenades and sniper rifles that give us the feeling that we have in middle of a war, don`t put fantastic shotguns that can blast five enemies in a single shot or magnums that kill an enemy when you shoot them in a hand, god, that`s ridiculous and unrealistic.
Bring back a system with limited saves and in wich we must decide when we save, remove "continues", where is the challenge, where is the fear from dead if we know we can continue anytime from the last checkpoint?.
But Capcom needs: Money, they are a company and they want money, they don`t care anymore about doing wonderfull games, they care about doing games that can sell millions of copies. They need to create more shooters, because most gamers are in love with shooters, and if they looks more like Call of Duty, much better. They need to create multiplayers because gamers like it. More characters, more enemies, more bullets, more action, more explosions, more multiplayer, That`s what work these days.
Sadly, even if RE6 didn`t sell what Capcom expected, it´s still now close to five millions copies, and the number will getting higger, and if this is more than what Capcom could sell with a classic survival RE, they will continue this way. This won`t change, if an excelent classical survival RE sells bellow 2 millions and a poor scripted shooter sells above 4 millions, What way do you think Capcom will choose next time? There is no doubt about it.
