I'm still slightly irked that the alternate costumes weren't useable in campaign mode. It's about the only thing that could have given the highly linear campaign some replay value, and they blew it.

...and as alluded to in a previous post, it isn't such costumes destroy the characters.

I'd agree, if not for two factors - there are more playable male characters (Leon does count) and far fewer revealing male costumes. I know, I know, female ones sell games. It would be nice if, I dunno, decent story and gameplay sold games instead and women could dress like normal women in most of the alt costumes.

I don't think "sex sells" makes such a difference in sales numbers for videogames. Sure, there are some people who'll buy a game because it has women wearing sexy outfits in it, see Dead or Alive, but when you look at the best selling games you don't see much of that, for example: I don't think there's even women in the Call of Duty franchise and if there is than it's on story mode but nobody plays CoD for that.

Way I see it, it's the game developers treating the consumers as a bunch of prepubescent boys who go crazy at the sight of a pair of boobs. The developers, or most likely the investors, are stuck in thinking we're still in the 80's and 90's when only kids played videogames and boys were 99% of the market, they forget not only that there's a lot of women playing games nowadays but that people grew up, so it's not that character with a big pair of tits on a skimpy outfit that'll make them buy the game.

It's a waste of resources, even if minimal, during the game's creation and only helps in keeping the image of videogames as an immature form of entertainment.

I think the alts have some really low-res underwear texture applied under their skirts (yes, even Chris' kimono alt ) but you only rarely get to see it when the camera glitches. Not that it matters.

That's correct yeah, if you die usually the camera will point up their crotch and it's all bad quality / low res / ugly. Especially Chris, people mistook it for his bare ass because of lighting and low quality textures.

That and we have to accept that they're also selling to a fairly large market in Japan, not just USA/European customers... The Japanese video game consumers love their boobies. And seriously, you're not going to see too many people complain in the US/EU either.
