  • Resident Evil Outbreak: File #1.5

    I'm not sure how difficult it is to hack the RE:Outbreak engine, but it would be amazing if we could modify four of the five scenarios to reflect the four chapters of BH1.5.

    Here are the fundamental changes I would make:

    Character Replacement

    Kevin Ryman -> Leon S. Kennedy
    Cindy Lennox -> Elza Walker
    Yoko Suzuki -> Ada Wong
    Mark Wilkins -> Brian Irons
    Jim Chapman -> Marvin Branagh (using his own model from File #2)
    Alyssa Ashcroft -> Annette Birkin
    David King -> John
    George Hamilton -> Roy

    Scenario Replacement

    Scenario 1: Outbreak / Wild Things -> Police Station
    Scenario 2: Below Freezing Point / Underbelly -> Sewer
    Scenario 3: The Hive / Flashback -> Factory
    Scenario 4: Hellfire / Desperate Times -> Laboratory (implementing a modified version of Below Freezing Point)
    Scenario 5: Decisions, Decisions / End of the Road -> deleted

    New 3D models would be constructed for most of these settings, characters would be re-skinned and renamed, and any desired combination of characters would basically be trying to progress through the scenarios until they ultimately escape from the Laboratory. Of course, the CVX-style semi-fixed camera angles would reflect those actually found in BH1.5 as much as possible.

    It has some possibilities. As with all RE games, Outbreak is difficult to manipulate, but something might be doable with the models and backgrounds.

        I'd be interested in this if we first had working server software.
        In fact, regarding the many version differences that are between the various versions of the Outbreak titles, when Dot50Cal did the rough translations for the JP versions (when we were still playing on the JP servers) we did talk about doing "perfect" mix 'n' match edits of content, features and audio DBs.

          A complete overhaul would be required; literally everything would have to be changed.

          ...not to mention, 3/4 of the filetypes haven't been documented, yet. That said, starting an overhaul project would be a big crap shoot.

          And most unfortunately, no one has setup a real, working server + software. You can read rumors, here 'n there, about people playing on private servers... but absolutely no evidence has surfaced to prove anything.

          I remember that.

          I made the tool to i/o all text, then nothing else happened. :/

            There was actually someone who was able to make a working, albeit buggy, program to make a server. Things apparently ran great if only 2 players are connected, but not so much if you try to go for a full set of four. The guy's online handle was devghostline, but he has since fallen off the face of the earth, taking down his youtube (yes, there were a couple of videos of him playing around in the opening parts of "Wild Things"/zoo level) and blogspot pages with him.

                I really wish I had saved it. I wasn't expecting him to suddenly disappear like that at all. There were some whisphers going around that he was scared of/had gotten a C&D from Capcom. If you search him on Google, a dotted version of the Zoo map comes up, among some other things like a translated log-in page for the JP File 2:

                    No this is Fulci's blog, though he never got it to work yet but hes working on it. DevGhostLine however did really make it work over a server :/

                      Yea. While I applaud fulci's efforts, devghostline was leaps and bounds ahead of him. The guy actually had a working server program running which you can host a playable game session of Outbreak with.

                        Sounds like an interesting concept, would be really awesome to see that happen. Is there no way to contact devghostline?

                          I missed out the first time around when all my friends were playing Outbreak online together. Monetary issues etc. I'd really love for this to become a possibility. Here's hoping something can be done.

                            What a shame, I didn't realize that Outbreak was so hard to crack. Would it be any easier to modify the CVX engine?

                              The only thing we can really hope for is for Capcom to release online enabled HD ports of Outbreak 1&2 on the 360/ps3.

                              Something which seems about as likely as Capcom releasing 1.5 at this point.
