    ~ Foreword
Much like its last two predecessors, RE6 has gotten mixed reviews from the Resident Evil community. Though
some feel that it was a worthy addition to the RE series, an overwhelming majority felt it was an absolute
failure. With RE6 behind us, and an uncertain future for Resident Evil ahead of us, now is the perfect time
to discuss what direction the series needs to go in the next installment.

I think a good way start off is to discuss where the story can/should go from RE6, barring a reboot.
Without further ado, let's start the discussion!

RE7 will go back to it's "roots".

I personally thought RE6 was a step in the right direction. I had fun playing it and I enjoyed the story. *shrug*

Resident Evil 7, I assume, is going to be about Jake encountering Alex Wesker. A loose plot thread and an obvious connection.

I was never a huge fan of the Wesker children plot line, so I'm a-OK if Capcom never expands on the Alex Wesker angle. I also really don't like Jake, but it's clear that he will be part of the series' future. I just hope he doesn't steal the limelight away from the characters that people actually like.
              Mass production? Ridiculous!

For a certain radical faction of the Biohazard community, one of which I am a proud member, nothing less than fixed camera angles, pre-rendered backgrounds (1920x1080), and tank controls will suffice. If the series must be rebooted, fragmented, or reverted entirely, then so be it.

We don`t know even if the next RE is going to be a numerical entry and there already exists a "RE7 discussion thread" LOL.

I repeat what I said in another thread, the direction that RE should go is too different from the direction that Capcom needs to go, that`s the problem.

As RE6 quotes: there is NO HOPE LEFT for Resident Evil.

There will be no reboot, just like in 2009.

Series needs to have the reset switch hit. These newer development teams, producers, and writers dont have what it takes. Its sad that a 3DS side story managed to be a more enjoyable experience than a PS3/Xbox360 title(Only played a little bit of the 3DS version, played about 5 Hrs of RE6 total, 3 hrs of Chris and 2 Hrs of Leon).

Go back to the mansion, we're literally 1 bad sequel away from the games matching the absurdity of live action movies. They've been creeping closer these past 6 or so years and its just not cool.

They've got a decent plotline of events/characters they can use all over again or expand upon and really...the sooner the better. Even doing smaller more self contained entries like Revelations isn't going to keep the series alive forever.

Hit the reset switch, go back to the beginning and expand on it. I would much rather have them do reboot back at the Arklay mansion with a gameplay length or about 17-19 (could be episodic switching between Chris,Jill, Rebecca, Barry, and Richard) hrs or so than another 25-27 hr mess like RE6.

With the more recent changes in technology and stuff they could pull off something better by going back to the beginning than limping on forward with characters we dont give a crap about surrounded by quicktime events from hell and the eventual full continent of undead and B.O.W.s.

Rebooting or remaking past games seems like a major cop out to me.

Not as bad as continuing forward with no real story direction and characters no one cares about :/

Next game will probably end up a whole continent overrun by BOWs, because thats the obvious next step.

And honestly...There are no real rules the series follows anymore. Zombies spread via bites? Nope, now its fart monsters of doom that after a can of chili can take out a whole city.

Angry unkillable stalker that you have to fill with lead to kill? Nope, now its a Giant angry lovesick monster that you have to punch the hell out of to finish off before a quicktime event death.

Tired of those evil megalomaniacs who just want to destroy everything? How about one who got jilted and couldn't get over it so he makes himself a clone of the woman he couldn't have? And as a n added Bonus he turns into a T-rex then back again as a magic trick!

Clones? Not just any clones, now clones that want to take over the world as a giant jellyfish monster.

And the series primary antagonist unknown bratty boy who is really a good guy at heart...ok, I'm going to bed. Twilight jokes are forming.

Honestly, they can go just about anywhere with the plot if they have a lick of sense - from full global disaster to single town Outbreak. The BSAA can't be everywhere, so if an outbreak is bad enough you could be a cop or civilian or whatever just surviving for a day or two in a full blown disaster area.

Or make it look like a small town incident then it turns out that, actually, fifty other small towns got hit as well and the BSAA are prioritising based on which politicians vote them more funding (it adds dirty, filthy realism) which means your town sees them three days late.

It's going to be more about gameplay than plot, and Capcom are probably trying to talk themselves into having the next game be similar to Left 4 Dead or Fifa or some random ballistic firing bullshit. They seem to be blaming the marketing department more than the idea that no one wants Resident Evil to be more like Call of Duty - CoD players already have games they want to play. It's not as though they're low on Call of Duty games.

Honest to God, I'm waiting for someone at Capcom to go, 'Hey, Mario's still going and is popular, maybe we should have Leon ninja stomp mutated mushroom and lizard monsters to defeat them?'

                              This.

If they fail to see the writing on the wall, then I'd be happy to drive down to Sunnyvale and write it in an even larger font.
