I'm making up shit about you when I say you don't care so much about a games story as you do getting the facts straight about the story? The only real story you've openly bitched about was 4's.
When have you provided evidence to the contrary in the past? Look at RE6, even you said you were disappointed by the game(I cant remember how disappointed, but I do remember you were disappointed by no mention of Alex Wesker for certain) but you wanted to know more about "the family", the new secret evil organization running the world from the shadows.
One element from the games story, thats a desperate attempt at creating a new evil organization and you want a 7th game to continue this awful new possible story arc because "it might get better" or answer a few more questions introduced.
You know when a TV show runs out of ideas and starts grasping at straws so they can get renewed for another season or so? Despite the fact the quality of the stories has become awful, the characters are now boring, and no matter what happens it isn't interesting as it used to be?
Thats what this game is, thats what its story is, and thats why if this was a TV show, it'd be cancelled. Because it's not working out, because it needs to just stop before it gets worse. The continued escalation of bio-hazardous outbreaks has hit its limit on the 'Bigger is better' stories they keep using and the characters we've all grown up with are old and the replacement characters they have for optional use...are boring, archetypes with bits of character development. Which in an age where storytelling in video games is becoming an artform, is a crime.
Id LOVE to share my reboot idea with you, but your so adamant that a reboot would be the death of the series(as well as eliminating almost 20 years of lore and cannon) while you're sitting back waiting and hoping for that RE7 comes out and has Alex Wesker and "the Family" explained, that you're more interested in insulting me or anyone else who is vocal about as reboot, why should I bother?
Why should anyone here who wants to share their ideas of a reboot even consider doing so when you're just going to rely on ad hominem to try to shut us up when we do?
I said something pretty obvious to everyone in this topic. If the best you can come up with is "wasteland", your imagination is quite limited. I'd say the same for the developers if they ever went along with it too. Don't make silly comments if you don't want someone to point out that they're silly.
I've openly bitched about quite a few stories in the series because I have criticisms for most of them. Some of these criticisms don't off-set the fact that some are good and enjoyable stories, others make them completely crumble. Again, making assumptions about me and my tastes isn't going to help your lack of an argument.
The Family wasn't a desperate attempt. It has been in the series since 1999, it has only just been covered now. I thought the government/Umbrella collusion and rivalry angle was fantastic, and while I didn't like most of its execution (due to the pointless involvement of Carla) it was still pretty good.
I don't think a reboot would be the death of the series. It's just a moronic idea, and you've yet to give a single convincing reason why it should happen. You and quite a few others think the term "reboot" is some sort of magical buzzword for suddenly fixing every problem a series has. As I've said before, your logic isn't much better than people who beg for remakes of the older games by the new team. "I hate everything the new team has done, but I want them to remake an older game I love." You think a reboot will fix everything from the story to the gameplay, even with the same people in charge. If you can't see the stupidity in that, you're a lost cause and not worth taking seriously. The series is neither constrained by the plot nor the gameplay. It is constrained by the developers and CAPCOM management.
I'd like BH7 to explain quite a few things: Alex Wesker, Ada, The Family, TRICELL. On top of that, there are other completely different avenues they can take. The rival company of Umbrella, while gone, surely had former employees and facilities around with plenty of their biological weapons sold already. H.C.F. dropped off the face of the planet and there are other nations which Umbrella sold their biological weapons to. It's not difficult to write a good story provided you have the imagination and ability to do so. Certain people in CAPCOM simply don't right now. However, there are other very capable writers that have yet to be given the opportunity to actually do much.
The series doesn't need to be "bigger and better." But you don't help it by perpetuating the idea that it's expected, necessary or inevitable.
It can explain all it wants, but if it's not a genuinely good story, it's not a good story. I'll enjoy the new additions (probably, as long as they're good), but I won't enjoy the story. Please try and wrap your head around that before accusing me of nonsense.Last edited by News Bot; 02-15-2013, 05:55 AM.PROJECT Umbrella - The BIOHAZARD/RESIDENT EVIL Compendium

Character-wise, I think it's obvious that Jake will have a role in RE7 (as much as many of us don't want to hear that). Sherry returning would be awesome, and I hope they bring Claire back; the Claire-Sherry dynamic would be interesting.
Give Leon (as much as I love him) and Chris a rest; they took center stage in RE6. I could care less about Ada and hope she will be killed off soon; never liked her. Helena was a throwaway character, Piers is dead, and Jill is boring and overused.
The time for Claire to return would be RE7. Maybe bring in Parker or some of the other Revelations characters, too (no Jessica, please).

1) More laberynthic and complex, non linear levels. Possibility of take different routes and/or different ways to do things.
2) No instructions on what to do and where to go all the time, no GPS indicators.
3) More elaborated puzzles, more exploration, more suspense, cut shooting moments from last games to about half or third.
4) Shortage of ammo, forcing us to decide if kill, run or hide depending on the situation, no ammo or rewards from enemy killing.
5) Great designed plot and story with connections to previous chapters from the franchise.
6) Intensting game progression with well designed and memorable moments, like most of REs have, and an epic ending too.
7) Possibility of get at least two different endings depending on the way we played and desicions we take.
8) No more viruses and no more organizations for now, work on what we have instead of creating new elements and leaving opened and unfinished plot lines.
9) Story with different chapters alternating between two or three single characters.
10) Melees only for getting free from enemies, no free destructive melees that cause more damage than a bullet.
11) New main characters, no characters for fan service.
I'd also add an option for no AI partner for those who want to get a true single-player experience. Oh, and bring back the separate map screen, the separate detailed inventory screen, and typewriters. Checkpoints are for lazy people.
If RE6 did something right, it was the statistics and dog tag titles. They added a lot of detail to the game.Mass production? Ridiculous!

Ambling closer to the original topic~
With the advent of Revelations being the best RE in a long time, and the few redeeming features of RE6, RE7 could have great potential. All they need is a story and a protagonist. Which brings us to an important two-part topic to discuss...
Pt. 1: Should RE7's playable protagonists be...
A) All original characters telling a new story
B) Series mainstays (Leon, Chris, Jill,) continuing and possibly concluding their personal story arcs
C) B-list stars such as Claire, Sherry, Sheva, etc having their own stories
Pt. 2: Where should the story take place in the timeline?
Should it take place after RE6, or elsewhere in the timeline?Last edited by AsteroidBlues; 02-15-2013, 05:52 PM.sigpic

Don't ask for other people to share their ideas on a reboot when you don't want a reboot, I'm not going to spend about 2 hrs typing up my ideas and concepts when A: they wont be used for a reboot if it happens anyways and B: You don't care regardless. You're more interested in telling me that I'm wrong and you're right. Which is why this is becoming a one sided argument, I mean hell I don't mind being wrong if you're going to be more civil about it.
The Family wasn't a desperate attempt. It has been in the series since 1999, it has only just been covered now. I thought the government/Umbrella collusion and rivalry angle was fantastic, and while I didn't like most of its execution (due to the pointless involvement of Carla) it was still pretty good.
Yeah, and the rest of us are to know how that the family concept has been in the series as supplemental material how? You know, its pretty fucking lousy that there is 60% of the series story we don't have and when shit from it gets used, thats stupid shit, and we complain about it you feel the need to bitch us out because "its cannon". Not all cannon ideas are good.
The concept of a select group of people running an entire country from the shadows is generic, used up, and just adds another conspiracy layer to the series story to cover up the unfinished conspiracy story arcs that they don't care about anymore. The real reason what they keep doing feels like a cop out is because this material isn't available for westerners, and that not all the ideas presented are that good.
I don't think a reboot would be the death of the series. It's just a moronic idea, and you've yet to give a single convincing reason why it should happen.
No a moronic idea is sitting on your ass watching a series go downhill and continuing to hope that it gets better just to tie up a few more loose ends while they grab unused ideas from the "cannon hat" of material we haven't seen outside of Japan.
Even as fans who aren't happy that the series direction pretending to be content, or just mildly content with mediocrity isn't cool.
When the company chooses not to listen to us, that's their mistake in the end.
You and quite a few others think the term "reboot" is some sort of magical buzzword for suddenly fixing every problem a series has.
No I don't. If you had payed attention to some of the things I've said in the past about why doing a reboot is a good thing, instead of just shutting down whatever I say in regards to a reboot or the crappy current story arcs, you might have come across me saying things like "they could go back to the original mansions and tell a more episodic storyline from multiple characters perspectives", like in Revelations. Instead of just from Chris and Jill perspectives you can get to see Barry and Rebeccas perspectives as well. This is just one small idea I've presented, if that isn't enough for you to even consider that going back to the beginning could be fun, or at least interesting, heres a few more.
The original Arklay mansion lab being a much larger facility, including its own "disposal' area like the Dead factory in RE3.(Minus giant cannon)A large corpse ridden dumping ground for failed experiments and infected personal? What about several files showing off the development of the different BOWs at different stages as well as experiments performed on them? What about making Wesker just that little more nasty and cerebral and instead of just him scamming Barry, he's also got Rebecca and Brad following his orders. Instead of Brad flying around like a clown after abandoning everyone, hes been waiting at a chopper landing pad at a different location waiting for Weskers orders "or else'. Barry is there to keep an eye on Jill and report to Wesker, Rebecca is there to keep an eye on Chris and report to Wesker. Feel free to scrutinize as you wan't too for the ideas not being cannon, but they still fit into the series and would work like a charm.
By going back to the beginning they still have a large enough plotline of events from the entries in the series to choose from what they want to expand upon or just summarize. Going back to the begining is a difficult step because you have to expand upon the basics of what was established in terms of story, gameplay, controls, atmosphere, etc...But guess what? Those of us who have the talent to create and think outside of the box see more potential in returning to the beginning, and continuing downhill.
But no, instead of thinking of the possibilities of expanding upon established events, characters and monsters you just said that an reboot automatically negates series 18 year history. Even when I pointed out that only a dumbfuck(see Anderson) would even consider throwing away all the established monsters, characters, organizations and events from the series that have made it something special to us all.
As I've said before, your logic isn't much better than people who beg for remakes of the older games by the new team.
And the new team have earned trust and respect from me and everyone else who is upset at the series how? The Revelations team, absolutely, but not fromt he main series or...ugh, the ORC developers.
"I hate everything the new team has done, but I want them to remake an older game I love." You think a reboot will fix everything from the story to the gameplay, even with the same people in charge.
I said nothing about putting the same team, or team members in charge, even though I am aware they if a reboot happened a chunk of them would be back on it because they have experience needed in one way or another.
You honestly think that with how the series future looks right now that the pressure wouldn't be applied to make the best damn game possible in order to get the fanbase to settle down? Whatever the next RE game that comes out, they're going to play it safe.
Because they've fucked up badly with six.
If you can't see the stupidity in that, you're a lost cause and not worth taking seriously.
The only thing here thats a lost cause is your civility. More ad hominem and anger at me challenging your opinions, says more about you than me.
I've presented an argument, you've presented your finger.
The series is neither constrained by the plot nor the gameplay. It is constrained by the developers and CAPCOM management.
Yes it is constrained by plot, because a series called "Bio-Hazard" that doesn't involve a bio-hazard of any kind, would be incredibly misleading. Every game in the series is about a bio-hazard event of some kind, either a virus ends up escaping by accident, or on purpose. I know what you mean, I'm just being nit picky.
As for the developers and managers, they're more to blame than anyone. As much as I dont like the CoD fanbase
Gonna be supplemental material only, I'll bet you on that. I mean Hell, if they had a large group of ex Umbrella employees working with Simmons in RE6 and Carla was a 'supervisor' instead of an Ada clone, that alone would have made the story interesting enough because it would have presented life after umbrella for Umbrella scientists, thugs and answered some of the questions we'd all like answered.
It's not difficult to write a good story provided you have the imagination and ability to do so. Certain people in CAPCOM simply don't right now. However, there are other very capable writers that have yet to be given the opportunity to actually do much.
I could crap out a better story than the writers could, especially under their working conditions. But I'm a romantic you see, I like to have character development as well as story development. So naturally anything I come up with would be set to debate, especially since I'm white and don't write very 'Japanese'...even though I do understand a fair amount of their story themes and structure.
The series doesn't need to be "bigger and better." But you don't help it by perpetuating the idea that it's expected, necessary or inevitable.
When did I said that it needed to be bigger and better? I said that's the mindset that the developers have been using as well as the direction the series seems to be ending up. Damn near every game is a bigger and bigger outbreak. my point is, whats left for them to do while using this thought process?
It can explain all it wants, but if it's not a genuinely good story, it's not a good story. I'll enjoy the new additions (probably, as long as they're good), but I won't enjoy the story.
Therin the problem lies. There were 3 small things in RE6 I liked, the spring feature, the option to just smash a box with an item in it instead of using a bullet or a knife, and the melee attack option. I'm not going to play a game that plays like crap and has a story I would have written if I was drunk back in college.
Games are supposed to be fun, if you aren't having fun, there is a chance the problem might not be you.
Please try and wrap your head around that before accusing me of nonsense.
I'll stop "accusing" you, when you stop using ad hominem on me -_- Which means we are at an impasse.

Please, make your own thread about a reboot already, this is getting more and more annoying. Stop derailing this one.
AsteroidBlues : I stand in favour of Sherry and/or Claire, with a new guy added in the mix. So a combination of A and C, with B as NPCs. It has to happen after RE6 because the opposite would just bring even more confusion in the timeline and we don't want that. Prequels should have their own subtitles (like Revelations, even if it's a shitty one, at least it's not confusing), not numbers.

Developer's have stated that Bio7 will be a reboot, of sort. It would be redundant to make two separate threads about the same subject.I'm a blackstar.
