RE2 was only the second game, it was still introducing main characters to the series, how many main recurring protagonist characters been introduced since RE2 in 1998? Zero.
Reiteration for the challenged; the characters are not essential to the plot. Dropping them and finishing their individual stories would not affect the universe, nor would the introduction of new characters.
And my thoughts on desirable story reboot from the scratch.
What makes resident evil different from other zombie games? Yeas, it big franchise, it has so many recognizable heroes, but the main thing is that it has it's base:
Someone discovers unknown virus, that someone establish corporation for resources, control, cover.
Continue to study the virus and verify it.The main reason of doing so - creating bows.
After an incident occurs. There are people who's going against evil corporations,as a consequence there are types of anti-bioterrorism.
All goes pretty logical.
What will reboot give us? as every reboot,it'll steak to the base, changing names of corporations, characters, interchanges. Wona see an example? - Ala first two movies of Paul Anderson (talking about story here). Have you ever thought about that? Re1, apocalypse movies are actually based on a game motives, it's a second universe, though it's a movie, not a game, but as a story reboot it fits well. That, guys, what you are getting in a reboot, something similar - same base, but with new shit.I don't see the point of reboot.Waste of todays franchise and waist of my time imho everything will be predictable more then what we get today.
Think about it.
