Currently, I have a list of about 741-757 possible backgrounds (offsets). Not sure if it is everything but a decent number. If I can figure out WinHex scripting, I can attempt to automate the extraction however even if I manage to do that, I still need to figure out if a program/plugin exists for me to batch convert the images into a more common format.
I tried extracting the last 12 images in my list and they were all the the train backgrounds. After a quick look through, they appear to be the ones from the trial version.
These are the hints I used to find the *.BS files (header varies so need more than one):

003801000300
003802000200
003802000300

The start of the file is 2 bytes before these (hex) values. The size of the images are either 32,768 bytes (32KB) or 65,536 bytes (64KB).
You need to use a hex/sector editor that can view the disk/drive itself when the CD-Image is mounted to it (do not do raw 2352 byte sector reads).
If header info for other file formats that are on the disk are found, possible from the final, beta, or trial, can possibly extract some other data as well.

I'll attach what I have right now but it's not much and still in BS format. I included a program you can use to view them.

It works quite nicely. Maybe you should focus more on the RPD and sewers part? Although I know you're searching for things "blind", so I don't know if that's possible.

XD I got rough idea where stuff might be. Images are going to be in same order as they are seen in game. Such as ROOM1XX are toward the start of the (search results) list while ROOM6XX (train) are toward the end of the list.
Very first image was the overhead shot of the "Mirror room" which is Room 101 (smallest number room).
I have been randomly extracting stuff to see if I get close to sewers and seems I got one @ offset 30E6002.

Here is a random 15 more before I go to bed. Some sewers but only a few.
(I think they pulled a lot from the trial/beta version).

If you download it it'll give you a loader program, but if you load and run that, it should download fine. Any suggestions for an alternate service? Mediafire won't let me log back on and I haven't had any luck with Anon.

Anyhow, here's all I could snap of the sewers, plus some of the ones I missed from the RPD earlier, plus the missing start of the Factory (the manhole entrance).

Probably not. lol Just kinda poking around. XD Unless I could extract the .BSS in whole, it would take awhile to extract everything (I should be studying for Japanese quiz tomorrow... O.o).

After adjusting my search pattern (to 6 bytes of common data in header, three variations), figuring out that all *.BS files might always be 32,768 bytes (Edit: I am wrong, found some 64KB ones), I found a decent method of extracting.
Not ideal since it takes a long time to but I'm still too much of a noob to figure out starting offset/sector, and size or end of of file for the *.BSS files. lol Though those files are pretty much
indistinguishable from single *.BS files since they are just a series of *.BS files pushed together with no additional bytes.

I have extracted some backgrounds that are not accessible in-game but I remember seeing some of these before. There is probably a lot of different camera angles that haven't been seen due to issues triggering events.

Nice Hope something interesting pops up. I guess those overhead angles could also have been useful for strategy guides too..

You sure about that IGAS thing? Where did you get it? It was written "Team IGAS"? Depending on which context that was written that could be a coincidence.
