He may have been told that he could escape via the Helipad ladder, but much to his chagrin, he found two stacked crates blocking the way. The Elza and Helicopter theories are good too.

It's interesting that when he exits the helipad he says: "That's right! I must report this to the chief".

Perhaps it could be the burning van that he's talking about? Going with your theory, he could have been planning to take an injured Chief Irons through there, maybe he asked him to check out the rooftop only to find out that the van crashed nearby, hence why he decides to report it to the chief?

It should be noted that Leon is actually facing the road leading up to the RPD's entrance in his opening cutscene. So yea, it seems pretty certain that he witnessed her crashing into the lobby.

After reading about the "I've gotta report this to the chief!" line, I've come to that conclusion too. Leon sees Elza crash her motorcycle into the RPD, a bunch of zombies start walking towards the RPD entrance, his situation just got a lot worst.

However, notice how he says "now what am *I* gonna do..."

Why is this issue pressing for Leon personally? It seems like Leon alone is the victim of this event. Also notice how he says "now," implying that right before this event, his plans were otherwise in order.

Makes perfect sense to me. Though I still think a lot of info is missing on exactly how Leon's scenario starts out. What happened to Leon prior to the opening? What's his motive? Why is he on the helipad in the first place?

I'm not sure why Elza had to crash into the entrance, a few scenarios I can think of are her being chased by something, her having to swerve to aviod something, or her getting surrounded and simply having to ram raid her way through a bunch of zombies to get in the place. I don't know if a helicopter would have been involved in the incident, it would make sense to assume so but there's no way to know for sure, if it was an evacuation attempt surely the survivor RPD officers would have already contacted the outside and ordered a rescue, would Leon be the only person on the roof swatting crows while he waits for a helicopter?

Leon's intro sounds by far the least exciting of the two because in all honesty I don't really know exactly what is going on. He doesn't seem to be in any immediate danger, presumably he's travelled via the 3F to the roof for some purpose, Elza seems to be fighting for her life while Leon is just chilling out on the roof not doing very much of anything. I've considered the fact that Leon doesn't even start on the roof and that the scene we've all seen is in fact part of the way through his scenario, although I think I'm letting my imagination get away with me on that one.

I hadn't really given that possibility much thought, but you might be onto something there.

Indeed, why have most of us assumed that this scene occurs at the very beginning of Leon's scenario? He could have initially entered the Helipad looking for a safer way down, and the cut-scene may have triggered only when Leon got close enough to the stacked crates.

Zero N64 will never see the day of light, people were about to get in big big trouble when information was about to be leaked. No one wants to get sued for releasing a game.

The circumstances were others. It was around the release of Resident Evil Zero for the NGC. I don't think CAPCOM would care too much about it this time.


Oh and regarding Elza: There are in game files which read "from college dormitory". I would assume she started at the college and came with her bike to the RPD seeking for safety and crashed trough the main entrance.

Note how she says when examining the bike: "The crash broke the axle. Poor thing" She doesn't say 'someone crashed trough the entrance and broke the axle'. That indicates she used the bike to crash through the entrance.

Wait guys, I just noticed that the letterbox bars fade into the cut-scene in the Complete Disc video. This means that Leon's lines here are exhaustive, and probably do not form a part of a longer cut-scene.

Can anyone rip the zombie textures/models from the prison zombies from the disc. Is this even possible? AFAIK, these are models not used anywhere else. I'm just curious what they look like in their entirety, and whether the portion below the waist exists.

There's a piece to this Leon opening cutscene puzzle that you're missing - but it's actually not part of the cutscene proper. It involves a second Heliport cutscene at the gate, and is documented in Alzaire's 80% build stills collection. There are two stills from this - my copies are very bad, and come from one of Black Crow's old maps. One of them is a picture of the sky OVER the RPD. The second is of Leon standing at the top of the stairs by the gate, looking up and saying something. Perhaps that's where the helicopter theory came from.

As I've uncovered above, Leon's "that's just freakin' great" cut-scene is exhaustive:

Replace the X for the desired model, So if I wanted to play Elza with umbrella armor I would use the code 800B0FF0 0006
0 = Leon
1 = Leon RPD armor
2 = Leon Unbrella armor
3 = bugged texture, causes the game textures to glitch have to restart or load back to fix
4 = Elza
5 = Elza rpd armor
6 = Elza Umbrella armor

D= Alternate leon (possibly Marvin placeholder as Gemini suggested
E = John
F = sherly

Once you have the one you want, enable the code and then reload the room, or teleport to another.
