    Did someone pretend the contrary?
Its been a bit since i played. But im 100% sure it was an option. It may of only been able to install from within the online menu, so that rules it out now.
But back in 04, i did install it, and it was the ntsc-uc copy.

It has nothing to do with the region, but everything to do with installing it on the HD. Without it, every version of the game would load 30-40 seconds between rooms. With the game installed onto the PS2HD, load times were lessened to about 4 seconds, which was a huge difference. But a game out of the box with that much load time is just unreasonable, IMO. Especially one with as many small connected rooms as Outbreak had. And the PS2HD was at least $100, and was only necessary for one game (in NA, as far as I know), FFXI.

Regarding the voice chat, I don't really understanding people explaining it's purpose/how it's supposed to work. I understand that, I am not an idiot. But that's not what the people wanted. If you looked at the message boards during the games' release, all anyone talked about was how they wished there was voice chat. I say, just give it to them. And as has been noted in the thread, there are ways to work around people breaking immersion, such as muted people that are annoying, proximity volume, only being able to speak with a walkie-talkie item, etc.

I'm not sure about the PAL copies, but the US version of the OB games definitely had HDD install. There were even HDD-only lobbies online, pretty sure of that. Loading times without the HDD is about 15-20 seconds in File 1, and about a few seconds less in File 2 (10-12 secs, iirc). 30-40 sounds more like if your PS2's laser is on its last legs.

Well it concerns the US version then, never seen that option in the PAL versions. The best way to enjoy the game is still soft modding.

We never got a HDD install option because Europe never got the PS2 HDD.

Really? Because I remember buying an hd unit and installing it. After that Outbreak loaded in next to no time at all.

I was just gonna say that. I can load them up on my PS2 (Slim PS2), and they will be just as you said 15-20 seconds.
I could load them on my defective laser PS2 (Also a slim), and it will be around 50 seconds.

I would support this in a heartbeat. In the recent survey Capcom did, I begged them to do this, and give it the audience and the oppertunity it never had in the generation of gaming it was in.

Try Outbreak on a PS2 emulator, it looks absolutely incredible. The detail is staggering.

Did that already. Its odd how well this game holds up when its upscaled.

This also applies for both Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 in 1080P mode on the PC, when output with HDMI.
They look better than alot of current gen games.

So basically, if they wanted to take the easy path to please the fans, simply do a strait conversion. No graphics change, just give support for 720P and 1080P, trophies/achievements, and online play through PSN and XBL. It would also be cool to see a WiiU port, but thats still asking alot.

I also don`t care about graphics, I think a straight port of both Outbreaks in a bundle pack for PS3, 360 and PC would do the job.
The only thing I would add, besides online support of course, is achievements and all the difficulty levels and game modes unlocked from the start, because it would be pretty annoying mainly for hardcore outbreak players to have to beat normal to get hard, hard to get very hard and very hard to get Nightmare again, and maybe adjust the requirements of some insane unlockables.

I hated my original experiences with the games due to their technical faults -- but I would probably support this but only if available on retail disc since technology has caught up with what Outbreak was trying to achieve at the time. An actual headset option would have to be included too, because that 'thank you/follow me/watch out' pre-programmed text crap doesn't cut it in an online co-op game.

Actually the gunshop standoff in RE6 reminds me greatly of the Outbreak games, but done to a fuller potential. That section was really tense and exciting and it's one of my favorite parts in the entire game.

I felt some outbreak vibe in RE6. Thats because it was either the same director or producer. Forgot which.

The first game was meant for HDD, the DVD version was unplayable, imo. It was even slower on the Japanese version. File 2's DVD version was acceptable. It didn't make that much of a difference to me. Of course, the best is on the emulator, with 16 AA running on Direct X 11 or 10 iirc. I don't really mind that there aren't any normal or gloss maps.
