It didn't make that much of a difference to me. Of course, the best is on the emulator, with 16 AA running on Direct X 11 or 10 iirc. I don't really mind that there aren't any normal or gloss maps.
I bet if they would of replaced the black load screens with a door opening, not many would notice.

Remember that in Code Veronica, some doors take long to load, because it takes a minute for them to open. (Example: When claire first escapes the cell room, it takes her a bit to climb the stairs because she is scared.)

Due to these being regular civilians with no connections to this stuff before, adding doors that took a around 10 seconds to open (with the explanation i said above), it would of been acceptable.
What im kinda sad about, is that they released it so quick. If they would of waited a year, and released it all on one disc for the xbox 360 and PS2, it may of been more successful. 360 had a huge popularity in online play, and PS2 around late 2005 was more popular online due to the PS2 slim containing the ethernet port.

Also what i will never figure out, is why they skipped the original xbox, which was very popular online, and had a built in harddrive. In technical talk, outbreak would of worked better on the xbox than ps2.

The Sony HDD was meant to be important iirc. Japan supported it. It was afterwards, the other international divisions of Sony that thought it would encourage pirating. USA didn't want to release it. afaik

What if they were in B4F DD T Shaped Passage after some idiot went through all the doors and ran to the elevator. I think they'd be trying to open that door as fast as they can!

Thing is, you could not know if your teammates were actually doing their part, the only way the game was showing you its progress was the cinematics. For example if you see the Zoo's main entrance open, then you understand that your teammates did it and you have to join them to beat the boss. If nothing happens for a while, then they were probably dead and you had to find their bodies to recover their items. You could also see you teammates on the map, but only if they were using ad libs : that way you knew where they were and if they were alive or not.
That was a great system and if there was ever an HD port I wish they make a mode without voice chat to keep the fun intact.
I agree, chat would ruin the feel of the game, perhaps if you could only talk to people in the same room / area and only faintly hear them in the next room / area it might work as a new addition, but i'd prefer it the way it was.

Besides that sometimes ad-lib had some fantastic results. I was on the last level of Outbreak File 1 when the Tyrant jumps through the window as George, he runs at me at a crazy speed and kicks me right in the arse, to which George replies: "You're worse than my ex-wife!".

Another was when I was pinned down by zombies and asked Kevin and Cindy who where both FULLY ARMED to help me.

        Me: Help!
        Cindy: "Hmmmmmm....."
        Kevin: "Maybe....."

And if I had a penny for every time Yoko obeyed my every request right up until I give her a gun then buggered off i'd be able to fund Ourbreak File 3 myself....

          Mark: Hey you, hey you.
          Kevin: Yes?
          Mark: ATTENTION!

I love how you say I miss the point but then reaffirm at the end the reason I think it helped in its failure - that it was the only voice option. The simple fact is regardless of the people on here who seemingly love the adlib system the simple reason most people outside of here don't and why we never see other games with it is because its simply not that great for an online game.

I'm not saying you couldn't have it as an option but I simply am stating having it as the only one (along with all of the games other faults) didn't help the game to massive success. A straight HD port without changes to this either in current marketplace wouldn't endear it further either meaning a port or sequel would very much have to include other options.

RE: HDD my statement would have been what's been discussed that it wasn't officially supported outside of Japan unless you modified your own system to run games put to hard drive. With it it helped greatly and in a lot of ways that's a precursor to installed games of this gen. But back then that wasn't a standard.

Just got PS2 emulation working on my new laptop and made an ISO of Outbreak File 1 - running from disc slowed it down every so often to load off disc drive.
I was amazed when Anti Aliasing and other options - just how good a PS2 game could look on a 50 inch HDTV.

I know it didn't have online - which a HD port would probably have.. but this is just as good - well on my PC anyway.
It was SO clear, I noticed more details in the levels than before - Outbreak level was amazing, like the city backgrounds and posters and details.
Hell .. I could even read the details on Alyssa's namebadge hehe

I also noticed some reused assets from this game that appear in RE Revelations .. like this in Birkin's laboratory.

"I never thought any of this stuff my brother taught me would work!"

                      • Wow, from Outbreak to Revelations, nice observation.

Outbreaks rock on PS2 emu, but yes, I had to create an ISO too because it`s much slower when you run it from the DVD, it flyes from the HDD though.

File 3 or nothing I say hehe - all 20 levels playable online as it was suppost to be played - played file 1 other day in HD on my PC, forgot how good it was.
The fact each character had a AI personality and didn't just follow you everywhere - what could have been

Might as well say the Silent Hill HD Collection was good.
