  • Would it be possible to bring the 1.5 code to other platforms?

So, the one being developed by I.G.A.S is for PS1. But im slightly curious if it would at all be slightly possible to somehow being that data to other consoles in playable format.
(Im not talking about a port, but possibly bring the redeveloped data and replace the retail data on the DC,GC and 64 release).

    Possible?

    Yes. Why wouldn't it?

A better question is, why bother? Or, why would it be worth it?

No, it was a simple question. Not that it would be worth it. However, it would be slightly interesting to play RE 1.5 on other hardware.

Make a challenge to the team to compress 1.5 in a size able to fit on a 64 cart.

Well, for a few reasons actually.

It would be quite cool to be able to play it on actual 64 hardware or dreamcast hardware. (I know we can use PC), however, say, your PC is to crap to play it properly, or you have no joypad and hate keyboard playing on emulators (like me), you can use a modded 64 flash cart and play 1.5, Or, burn a dreamcast disk and play it on dreamcast.

Might work in Bleemcast, I suppose.

Meh. They got enough on their plate as it is. No reason why the PSX isn't sufficient.

bleem is an emulator and doesn't work very well. PCSXbox for the original Xbox works fairly well, but I'm unsure how it handles Resident Evil. The Wii PSX emulator is atrocious and can barely play most worthwhile games at 15-20 FPS. The N64 flashcarts you mentioned (Everdrive) currently costs in the $100-$150 range ..

You can get a USB bluetooth dongle for $10 on monoprice and a Dualshock 3 for $43.99 at BestBuy (North America) right now and play with ePSXe or another PSX emulator on PC with near perfect compatibility (ie; you likely wouldn't be able to tell the difference even if you were comparing side by side with an original system.)

You can find original PSX modchips as cheap as $4 (USD) online. I won't mention any sites to purchase these, but there are also other methods out there to boot backups, like disc swapping methods (though, these ruin your motor and laser - albeit, a PSX is dirt cheap these days.) That means you can play flawlessly on original PSX hardware if you really wanted to.

I've successfully tested the current 1.5 build on my modded PS3. Works fine.

In short, there's a number of methods you can use to achieve what you're trying to do - the biggest difference would be controller scheme. You can just buy a USB gamepad adapter to convert any platform controller to USB and upscale graphics using emulation to achieve similar graphical capabilities the Dreamcast offered in it's RE2 port using ePSXe.

I can't speak for team IGAS, or anyone else with the ability to port and replace files in different RE games on various platforms, but I imagine it would be tremendous work and very buggy to bring your idea into fruition. It's a pointless endeavor, to say the least.

In closing, if your PC somehow can't even run ePSXe at 640x480 resolution (hard to believe), you have plenty of other inexpensive options - but buying a new computer would probably be a good start.

Why bother porting it to other consoles? There's already plenty of way to play it already. At this rate you might was well make a new engine just for the new system.

If it were to be ported, I'd say there'd have to be a custom emulator written just for the game. Bleamcast is a joke and can't run any of the Resident Evil games well. So the emulator would have to be written from scratch and must be programmed by a person knowledgeable in the Dreamcast system language. Too much time and effort would be required IMO.

I think it being on the PS1 is perfectly fine. Sure it's going to go on my Ouya as well, but merely for convenience as the Ouya will be my emulation machine.

There you go, the Ouya. Comes out next month for $99 and has a built-in PSX emulator.

I didn't touch upon the Playstation Portable ability to play PSX backups - or Android phones (with bluetooth support for Sixaxis/Dualshock 3.)

You'd have to have the original source code for a true port of RE15 to any other platform - PC, Dreamcast, PS3, Xbox, you name it. That isn't going to happen short of a miracle. Capcom has repeatedly expressed disinterest in such, and the source code is their property. End of issue. That only leaves two possible paths - PSX emulation on other platforms, or PMODs of existing RE games. Both of those avenues are open and available. You gotta go with what you got.

Dark Biohazard's RE15 PMOD for RE2 holds the best promise to date of an RE15-ish experience on the PC without an emulator so far. He's come a long way, but still has a long way to go. There's supposedly a project over at the RE 1 2 3 Modding board involving the porting of all RE15 rooms to RE2 RDT compatible format. That would be a necessary first step to a pure PC experience for a RE15 port. Mods to the RE2 executables and game resource libraries to duplicate RE15 game features would naturally come later, although they'd be a lot more work. Still a long way to a true RE15 experience on PC, athough it's made great strides.

Which means ... we're back to emulation for now. ePSXe, PSX 1.14, or whichever PSX emulator you prefer - the current build of RE15 works with just about all of them. Same goes with other platforms. Whichever emulator works for you.
Do you know where I can find the final build of Resident Evil 1.5?

Speaking of the Ouya, I'll be getting mine next week. I know someone who got their hands on a dev version and is selling it to me. From what he's said, all the emulators run games at 60FPS, even NeoGeo and PS1.

I've heard the emulation on the Ouya is good, however, their is lag with the controller and the buttons get stuck under the casing apparently - only in backer units though, those shipping in June are fine.

PS1 emulation is available on modded PS3's, PSP's, Bleemcast (^above says support is rubbish), Xbox (support is good with RE games.), JailBroken iPhone(dunno support) and Android(support depends on your specs of android device)
And with modchips, it's available for use on PS1 and PS2.

I think your PC would have to be incredibly ancient to not emulate PS1 - my old brothers PC was made around 2002 and could run ePSXE fine.
Just get a controller. Either, a USB one - a PS1/PS2 to PC adapter - or a PS3 controller with USB support and install MotionJoy.
