The puzzles: anyone else find them lackluster?

Did Downpour have breakable weapons? I really disliked that feature in Origins.

On topic, I found the puzzles understandable in RE1, since the Mansion was built to have traps and puzzles. In 3, the puzzles felt different and in my opinion, the best. It didn't feel out of place for Raccoon City, although the Water Puzzle is a pain sometimes, at least you feel more accomplished when you finally beat it.

Yes, but they aren't as fragile and the system makes sense. Plank pulled from a fence? Breaks in a few swings. Steel hammer? A lot of swings.

I think this is dead on; if people don't have instant gratification, they start to whine. Most games made in the last five years or so have boatloads of tutorials and hint systems to make sure you never get stuck. It's hard not to look at it as "dumbing it down" for the lowest common denominator, though.

The puzzles I enjoyed the most in this series were those that had random solutions (such as those in Outbreak). RE3's puzzles had these, too, but I never cared for that game's puzzles for some reason. Revelation's "puzzles" were a complete joke; there's pretty much one style (the panel wiring), with the exception of the casino puzzle. Still, it's better than the terrible excuses for puzzles we had in 5 and 6.
        Mass production? Ridiculous!

Well, I think the solar puzzle from RE5 and catedral puzzle from RE6 are pretty good, I mean, they are not reeeeeally hard but they are funny and interesting, but they are almost the only puzzles from these games sadly.

The problem of this generation of gamers is the complete lack of patience, people seem to be hurry on "eating" every game (not beating, eating) as soon as possible and many gamers would simply abandon a game after getting stucked in some puzzles, so companies are afraid of that and they try to avoid puzzles as much as possible. I`ll never understand these people, because I`m from a different generation.

^ Its because those idiot people you just explained are cod fans.
COD and action games ruined gaming. Looking back at games from the PS1 era and early ps2 era, quality was VERY high and developers actually put effort. Sadly around the 2005 mark and over, its very rare to find a game worth playing.

This era always comes. Have you all forgotten doom and quake, who were copied at every turn? The doom and quake clones of yesteryear are the halo and cod clones of today. Eventually, they will fade and the niches will rise again, in which the cycle continues.

^ This. Some of the best game series' of all time started on PS1 & 2.

I love puzzles and getting stuck - even getting lost in levels too.
They do dumb down games for ''casual'' gamers - as what's been said - games pretty much play themselves.

This is evident in the new Tomb Raider Reboot. No puzzles whatsoever - and the ones they had were 'physics' based - but they were too easy and hints everywhere.
I got stuck like once, but only for a few minutes until I noticed a small detail I'd missed.
Those who played the older games would know the difference. Lara pretty much tells you what to do anyway via speech.
I like to wonder into a space and have to use my brain to figure stuff out thank you very much hehe

You're absolutely right, look at the old FF series, back then you had to travel and explore many places to progress the game, but now the newer series has become too dull and linear !

Everything is linear and overexplained, I hate how some games explain so obvious things: find enemies and the game says "Eliminate the enemies", find a puzzle and the game says "Solve the puzzle", find a locked door and the game says "Search the key to open the door", LOL, seriously do they think we are dumb and we can´t figure out that by ourselves? And that we can´t find the way if they don´t point it on the map or mark the path with a big arrow?

You just made me remember how I got stucked in Tomb Raider 3 several years ago (it was my first TR), stucked 3 or 4 times per level for sure, but I never gave up and completed the game after almost two months.
