You don't say? That's pretty cool.

Are there any theories/clues as to how the outbreak might have started? (that you know of)

                  newsbot already told us that

Annette scattered the T-virus around the city in response to umbrella "killing" her husband, apparently for revenge.

News Bot said earlier that Birkin isn't the main villain in 1.5 but is still the final boss I wonder who the villian could be???

The villain is the same as in BH2--- Umbrella.

Birkin wasn't a villain in any version.

Birkin was more of a victim than a villain, although I wonder what drove him to inject him self with the G virus as opposed to just letting him self die. Any input News Bot? I guess he felt he could do more good with the mutation and put an end to the wrong doings, like killing the Umbrella operatives, although Anette died as a consequence.

In June, Dr. Birkin preempted this assault by increasing the levels of toxic waste generated from the underground laboratory to such amounts that it overwhelmed the waste incineration plant, creating a state of biohazard. These biohazard conditions unleashed the t-virus, zombifying the employees and researchers working within. But the damage didn't end there as the virus slowly began spreading throughout the city.
Well, sounds like a bona fide villain to me. He was a mad scientist and a mass murderer.

Those circumstances were only added in BH3 though. BH2 left the whole thing pretty vague, which was one reason BH3 was written. Clarification was needed. This is explained in our second interview with Yasuhisa Kawamura, which I'm translating right now.

                              The interview also explains this.

Fair enough. However, the whole "mad scientist" stuff was still quite visible in Annette's recollection FMV in my opinion. I hardly saw him as a victim, at least, not as much as John from RE1.
