  • Save Rooms Planned For RE6?

Is this true? Were save rooms really planned for RE6, or is this fake? And people said Revelations was a "step in the right direction"... Heh. I could not find anything else on the internet about it. If it is fake, it's very well-made. This is the poster Iceyblade's video description.

In Resident Evil 6, originally the good old Safe Room concept was planned to be present again. Thus, an accompanying Safe Room music track has been created as a nostalgic reference to earlier RE titles. It captures especially the dark mood of RE 2 and RE 3.

Unfortunately, the idea was dropped again during the earlier development phase of the game, as it was considered too old-fashioned and not in line with modern, up to date game design anymore. A pity, if you ask me.

Nevertheless, at least I am lucky enough to share the mentioned unpublished RE 6 Safe Room song with all the other, outdated nostalgics around the globe :-)

Enjoy guys! This is the one and only original upload. I worked hard to get my hands on this track.

PS: I just noticed something went wrong with the upload towards the end. I can fix that if someone wants me to. Just drop a line.
This has me really curious, and this is such a beautiful composition. What do you think?

UPDATE 1 -- Due to recent attention, the uploader admitted that they created it. It's fanmade. Here's what they added to the video description:

***UPDATE: Allright guys, I never expected this to find such resonance, so now I admit it: it was supposed to be a joke! This is no leak, and I have no top secret hacker connection to Capcom's underground archives either, but I love the nostaltic save room themes of the good old REs so much that I composed this myself (it took me 20 minutes). Yep, that's the truth. Maybe I should make some more... :-) Sorry if I have disappointed some of you, like I said, it was meant as a joke. This is how I IMAGINE and WISH the save room tradition to continue/live up again. Dear Capcom, if you are looking for someone to contribute to future RE scores, please feel free to hire me - I'll do it for free! :-DDD ..... Cheers***

UPDATE 2 -- The creator deleted their account, thus deleting the original video. But they made a new account and reuploaded the video, which I added to the top of this post (replacing the one that got deleted). Enjoy. Below is the new video description.

This is how it all started, when I uploaded this hoax - my own fun composition pretending it was a leak from Capcom, who originally intended to implement the save room concept in RE6 but dropped the idea at a later stage. Sorry again guys ;-)

Iv'e never played any other game that would send me into such a crazed frenzy when your desperate to save or pick up a certain item from a save box etc. That feeling when your healths on danger and the save room is a marathon away, you need to make it but its a long slog and its a dangerous route. Nothing else has ever given me that panic feeling to try and make it! It aided so much to me in the "survival" aspect of "survival horror". In fairness with the way the rest of the game (RE6) went, I dont feel a save room would have suited the style of the game, but if it was a staple from the start and the game was developed with that in mind, I cant help but feel RE6 would have been designed much better.

The linear design of RE6, like RE5, doesn't exactly lend itself well to save rooms. If real, that track does indeed have the save room vibe, but it's probably more of a stats screen/chapter end thing, like how RE4-5 had (doubt they'd revisit the Merchant concept - and I don't blame "What're you buyin'?" for that, I blame MGS4 and its stupid attempt at doing a similar type of traveling dickwang concept for that.)

Weird..haven't heard this track until now. Could be possible they had save rooms very early on but with how action focused 6 was it would be odd to have random save rooms here and there.

Compared to 6, it was a giant leap for mankind in the right direction. And that's coming from someone who likes RE6.

            Regardless, pretty music is pretty.

It definitely was, I won't deny that. But since save rooms were at least planned for RE6, it's got me thinking of what it could have been like. It may have even been able to surpass Revelations.

True, as some of you said, it wouldn't fit it with the RE5-RE6 style. But the save room idea was scrapped too early in development. If it was still around while it continued to develop, the game style would have turned out totally different because it was based on save rooms and the old formula. Maybe RE6 would have actually been a good (in terms of an RE game, it's a good action game).

I can only hope to see save rooms again when/if RE7 comes around.

As much as I miss the traditional environment layouts of the series, the save rooms would have felt tacked on due to RE6's level designs. The labyrinth designs were what made save rooms feel so special. In RE6 you just chug away through enemies and hope the level ends soon. And should for some reason you die, your last checkpoint has your back.

Thanks for posting this track though. It's nice to hear.

I thought MGS4 had a great "shop" feature tbh and atleast drebin had something to do with the story....but each to their own i suppose

This, anyone who doesn't think so needed to get their nostalgia goggles smacked off.

As already said, there's no place for saving rooms in RE6's current form. Had it be implemented in retail it would be stupid and break the flow of the game.

...maybe they tried to add backtracking-style gameplay early in development?

Due to the recent spike in attention the video got (probably because of this thread, thanks everyone! ), the original uploader came out and admitted it was a joke. It's fake. I knew there was something fishy about the piano cutting off early at the end... Anyways, it's still pretty awesome and I give the creator major props for being able to replicate the old atmosphere of the save room so well. Here's the update in the video description.

Sad really, it was really an awesome tune. Surprised it only took him 20 minutes to do it. Amazing what some people can do with music.

The creator deleted their YouTube account (thus deleting the original video) but they reuploaded it on their new account. It's the same as before, including the piano disappearing at the end, but it has been sped up a little bit this time.

I updated the original post with the new video in case anyone wanted to give it a listen.
