  • Capcom in financhial trouble. only $150 Million left in their corperate bank

Now I know a lot you are going to say "That's still a lot of money for them". Well for one person it is. For a company like Capcom, it's not good.
If they don't change their ways (Which let's face it...They aren't) They are going to end up like THQ and Lucas Arts...Bankrupt and forgotten.

With details on how much Capcom has in the bank recently surfacing I decide to go over some of the reasons they are where they are currently. Then talk about...

Kinda hard to believe, how anyone could know how much money has Capcom in the bank? It´s not like companies make such info that public.

They won't be forgotten, they'll be gone soon though. It sucks, Capcom was a big part of my childhood.

It's actually stated their current cash flow is 152 million in their most recent financial statements. It's required to be there as part of their public float and share ownership. That's just cash flow mind you, not assets including buildings, plaza galleries, value of IP, etc.

Capcom's fiscal 2013 report has stressed the need for sweeping change in the company, as it rebounds from a difficult p…

Hardly surprising. Resident Evil 6 was too expensive to be that mediocre, and the new style Devil may Cry was an incredibly stupid move.

Multiple cancellations, crap-shoots with bloated budgets, completely unnecessary overhauls, greedy DLC practices, Japanese exclusivity, abundant outsourcing, horrible treatment of staff, lackluster communication with fans...

              Is it really any surprise?

Imo its purely down to bad business practices and lack of self confidence. You look at games like CoD these days making sales like 20mil units and you think that as a business you need to be competing for these figures otherwise you're a failure as a company. Instead of just sticking to your art and accepting your place in the market, you make a bunch of irrational, desperate and risky business choices to try and be competitive. In fear of having poor sales and losing money, you ingore your fans and ditch "obsolete" genres like survival horror and platformers, and spend as little money as possible making generic action games which are a much safer bet than those obsolete genres you're afraid of losing money from. However few people like your lackluster products and can see straight through your bad business practices, and in turn you end up losing money anyway, perhaps more money than had you just went with the flow and continued producing the same quality products you used to.

Killing off the Megaman series was one major bad decision, releasing half a game and charging people for truck loads of DLC in SFxT was another. They lost confidence in their products and focused more on milking money, instead of just making quality products which lots of people love. In the end they made very mediocre games which sold poorly and were widely criticised, instead of making really good games which sold poorly but were successful in the heart of their fans. It's unfortunate but they only have them selves to blame, we can only say so much until they're hemorrhaging money and on the brink of bankruptcy.

i did not mean "bad games" taking it personally.

they see theirseves like a big AAA softhouse like EA. and by that, tons of money goes for marketing. but the most important, games, do not reach the quality level of an AAA softhouse.

I see Capcom in the shameless same situation like Gearbox's fiasco regarding Alien Colonial Marines.

Precisely. I'm not sure why this is a surprise to some people. Capcom is their own worst enemy. They did it to themselves.

                    Karma.

EDIT - Oh Mark, you forgot one other thing. Not caring what their fans want. After RE5, everyone said they wanted RE to go back to its roots, and Capcom acknowledged this, and made RE6 action anyway. And they practically said in an interview that they are like the parents of the series, and the fans are like the children, and that if they had to listen to their fans all the time, the series wouldn't evolve (or some crap like that).

They would be foolish to go back on their word with RE7.

Capcom promises RE6 will satisfy fans of the series

Boy were they wrong about that.

Still, if they make smaller, better designed RE games, they can dig themselves out of some of this mess. Revelations proved they can still put out a good RE game thats worth a purchase. The RE fanbase is still strong enough to keep them afloat for years to come, but they have to stop fucking us over(like they did Megaman fans).

I still want them to just reboot the son of a bitch because I dont see them ending the story arc they've chosen in any way that will satisfy anyone, but thats just me.

In all honesty, this is the wake up call they needed, albeit like 3 years too late. The downside is... their asses can get bought out by a larger corporation and then they'd be stuck making games for like 1-2 consoles. Imagine if Sony purchased capcom?..Or worse...EA or Disney.

I'd rather they get bought out by Nintendo if the situation came down to it, but still, I'd prefer Capcom remain their own company. Not just for nostalgia reasons, but the idea of them making Sony only games, or Nintendo only games, or generating more money for Disney, makes me sad and would let down a lot of longtime fans.

I know, I was just twisting your post to make my own point. You're right though, they push the games hard but the levels of quality just aren't up to scratch. It's probably one of many contributing factors that have caused them to lose money. I think you know shit hit the fan when they announced they were cutting staff by half and spending half the amount of time actually developing games.

Another thing to add is all their former employees, is Capcom's competition.

Inafune and the original Megaman team is making Mighty No.9.It has a huge following.
Mikami is making The Evil Within which is a Real Survival Horror title.
Kamiya is working on Bayonetta 2 I believe.

                          Capcom is screwed!!!!

That's what happens when you try to make your games "more fun" for a wider audience. Hopefully they won't try to turn next RE into an open world sandbox cause apparently that's what sells good.
